1. John Higgins was born in, Roscommon, Ireland. John married Ann A. Ann was born in 1827 in Ireland. She died on 28 Jul 1900 in Fall River, MA. She was buried in St Patrick Cem, Fall River, MA. 

Ann's husband died before she died. At time of her death she resided at 29 Kay Street, Fall River, MA. A High Mass of Requiem was held at St Patrick's Church in Fall River at 9 AM. on Tuesday. We must get Ann's maiden surname and the names of her parent's from her death notice on file at the City Clerk's Office in Fall River, MA.

John and Ann had the following children:

   3 F ii. Winifred Higgins was born in 1854 in Ireland. She died in US. In 1880 Winifred was a cotton weaver in Fall River, MA.

Second Generation
4. Patrick J Higgins (John) was born on 14 Mar 1855 in Strokestown, Roscommon, Ireland. He died on 29 Apr 1929 in Fall River, MA, USA. He was buried in Fall River, MA, USA. 

Patrick conducted a tailoring establishment and was a prominent citizen in the south end of Fall River. He came to the US in 1879(?]. His ship sailed from Liverpool to Boston, MA. He became a US citizen on 12 Nov 1889. At that time he resided at 5 King Philip Street, Fall River, MA. John Sales and Fred A Faneks of Fall River, MA were witnesses at his naturalization. 
1887 Fall River City Directory has him as a tailor at 158 South Main Street and living at 19 William Street.
1896 Fall River City Directory has him as a tailor at 1799 South Main Street and living at 692 or 696 King Philip Street. In Jun 1900 he lived on King Philip Street, Fall River, MA. He was a member of the Knights Of Pythias.

Patrick married Bridget A Diskin daughter of John Diskin and Honora Fanning on 9 Aug 1886 in St Mary Chursh, Fall River, MA. Bridget was born in Mar 1860 in Ballinlough, Roscommon, Ireland. She died on 29 Mar 1923 in Fall River, MA, USA. She was buried in St Patrick Cem, Fall River, MA. 

Source: 1900 Fed Census, Fall River, MA. Bridget entered the US in 1875. She bore 7 children with 6 still alive. Son John died in infancy. Was her middle name Ardelia? Was she actually born in 1857?

John was the Superintendent Of Industry at the Walpole State Prison in Norfolk County,MA. Prior to that he was a construction engineer for Stone & Webster Power Company in MA. He was a sergeant in the 302 Infantry Division in Europe during World War I. He had no children. 

   13 F v. Honora C Higgins was born in Jan 1895 in Fall River, MA. She died on 23 May 1980 in Fall River, MA. She was buried in St Patrick Cem, Fall River, MA. 

Hannah was a graduate of the Rhode Island Normal School in 1917. She was an elementary school teacher in the Fall River, MA school system for forty one years. With her sister Margaret, she owned and operated a children's apparel store the "Tot Shop" in the south end of Fall River for several years. During the late 1940"s she was chairman of the South End Merchants Association. She graduated B M C Durfee High School, Fall River, MA in 1913. She began teaching  in the Tiverton, RI school system in 1917 and the Fall River, MA system in 1917. She taught at the Healy, the Connell and the Dwelly schools. She never married.

Third Generation
11. James Joseph Higgins (Patrick J, John) was born on 9 Dec 1890 in Fall River, MA. He was christened in St Patrick Church, Fall River, MA. He died on 16 Feb 1977 in Lexington, MA. He was buried in St Patrick Cem, Fall River, MA. 

"The Post Office was part and parcel of my father who began his career as a sub when a young man and retired as postmaster after forty years of service.
"His involvement in whatever he did was "his best", i.e., taking a six week leave of absence as Grand Knight to direct a Knights Of Columbus fund raiser production or his later interest in the Serra Club, a lay organization for the support of vocations.
"At one time, my father got into raising Bantam and White Crested Black Polish chickens for show and this kept his interest for several years. His relaxation or hobby was reading", Eleanor Higgins McGill.
Prior to marriage he resided at 701 King Philip Street, Fall River, MA. For a short while after marriage he lived and sold autos in New Bedford, MA. For most of his married life he lived at 20 Rosedale Street, Fall 
River, MA. He was a graduate of Durfee High, Fall River, MA.
As a US Army lieutenant in WW I, he was stationed at Gen. Pershing's headquarters where he was in charge of Army post offices in France. He:
-was a First Lieutenant, Army Service Corps
-was authorized two gold war service chevrons
-left US on 14 Mar 1918; returned to US 24 Mar 1919
-was assigned to 15th Co, 4th Bn Depot Brig; 19th Co, 5th Bn Depot Brig: Hdq 82 Inf Brig: Hdq 148th M G Bn Casual Co and #1 G Hdq Postal Express Services
-honorably discharged from the military service in the US Army at Camp Dix on 8 Jul 1919
He was nominated for postmaster by President Harry S Truman. 
He and Catherine went to Niagara Falls, NY on their honeymoon.

James married Catherine Eleanor Logan daughter of Patrick Logan and Maria Felicia Sweeney on 15 Jun 1925 in St Patrick Ch, Fall River, MA. Catherine was born on 30 Dec 1898 in Fall River, MA. She was christened in St Patrick Chrch, Fall River, MA. She died on 9 Aug 1964 in Fall River, MA. She was buried in St Patrick Cem, Fall River, MA.

"My parents had varied interests during their lifetime.
"Mother liked to figure skate as a young woman; into competition tennis. She had a beautiful contralto voice and was involved in music as far back as I can remember - standing in the aisle at Holy Name Church directing the children at mass on Sunday or in the choir.
"She had a long interest in scouting, as a leader before her marriage and as the leader of a girls group at St Vincents Orphanage in Fall River, MA. Seeing the need there, my mother established an early version of "big sisters" at the orphanage with women from the Catholic Club taking an interest in the children.
"Prior to her marriage, she was employed by the B M C Durfee TrustCompany in Fall River, MA.
"My mother was able to make bird calls to the extent that they would answer her," Eleanor Higgins McGill.
Catherine resided at 154 Oliver Street, Fall River, MA prior to her marriage. Rt Rev James E Cassidy officiated at her wedding. The new couple lived for a while in New Bedford, MA. Catherine died at home at 20 Rosedale St, Fall River, MA. 
She and James went to Niagra Falls, NY on their honeymoon.

James and Catherine had the following children:

14. William Michael Higgins Sr (Patrick J, John) was born on 22 Sep 1896 in Fall River, MA. He died on 21 Dec 1971 in Fall River, MA. He was buried in St Patrick Cem, Fall River, MA. 

William was a buyer/manager in the retail shoe business for Cherry & Webb's in Fall River, MA.

William married (1) Marie Rose Fitzpatrick daughter of Henry A Fitzpatrick and Catherine V Murphy. Marie was born on 28 Jun 1899 in Fall River, MA. She died on 29 Apr 1947 in Fall River, MA. She was buried in 1947 in St Patrick Cem, Fall River, MA. 
They had the following children:
   24 M i. William Michael Higgins Atty was born in Aug in Fall River, MA. He is deceased. William married Barbara McKenna in 1949. 
+ 25 M ii. Harold Joseph Higgins was born on 19 Aug 1930. 

William married (2) Anne E Delaney on 5 Oct 1948. Anne died on 22 Mar 1993 in Fall River, MA. She was buried in St Patrick Cem, Fall River, MA. 


15. Margaret A Higgins (Patrick J, John) was born in Mar 1900 in Fall River, MA. She died on 23 Jul 1973 in Fort Lauderdale, FL. She was buried in St Patrick Cem, Fall River, MA. 

Margaret was a Bridgewater State College graduate and an elementary school teacher in Assonet, MA for over thirty years. She lived for 32 years at 616 King Philip Street, Fall River, MA; on Mill Street in Assonet, MA and died in Florida.

Margaret married John W. Porter. John was born in 1890. He died on 3 Aug 1956 in, MA. He was buried in St Patrick Cem, Fall River, MA. 

John was a 41 year employee of the Eastern Mass. Railway Co. He retired as a bus inspector. He started work for the company on 16 Jul 1913 as a street car conductor. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart School and the old Herrick Institute in Fall River, MA. The 1880 US Census for New Bedford has a John W Porter listed. Is he this John's father?

John and Margaret had the following children:

16. John William Higgins (John William, John) was born on 9 Oct 1891 in Fall River, MA. He died on 12 Dec 1964 in Akron, OH. 
John married Mollie.

17. Francis Joseph Higgins (John William, John) was born on 27 Jan 1894 in Warren, RI. He died on 14 Dec 1985 in Needham, MA. 
Francis married Hazel Gertrude Healey on 2 Jul 1928 in St Mary Church, Warren, RI. Hazel was born on 16 Jan 1906 in Bristol, RI.

18. Charles Edward Higgins (John William, John) was born in Warren, RI. He died on 9 Dec 1968 in Warren, RI. 
Charles married Rose Asselin. Rose was born in Dec 1895. She died on 14 Dec 1974 in Warren, RI. She was buried in St John Cem, Warren, RI.

19. Anne Higgins (John William, John) was born on 18 Aug 1898 in Bristol, RI. She died on 24 Aug 1987 in Providence, RI. She was buried in St Mary Cem, Warren, RI. 

Anne retired as the chief clerk of the division of taxation for the state of RI after more than 27 years of service. She had earlier worked for the Warren Radio Co., which later formed the Lyric and Pastime theaters in Warren and Bristol, RI. She was a graduate of the former Childs Business College whereshe earned a teacher's certificate in stenotyping. She also worked for the 
French Thread Co.. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary.

Anne married William Drysdale Jr on 21 Aug 1923. William was born on 4 Jun 1890 in Providence, RI. He died on 12 Feb 1952 in Worcester, MA. He was buried in St John Cem, Warren, RI. 
They had the following children:
32 F i. Catherine Anne Drysdale was born on 15 Feb 1926 in Fall River, MA. Cathy was a federal employee in Newport, RI. She was secretary to the commander of the Newport, RI Naval Base.



Fourth Generation
21. Eleanor Marie Higgins RN (James Joseph, Patrick J, John) was born on 24 Jan 1927 in St Luke Hosp, New Bedford, MA. She was christened in Feb 1927. 

Eleanor attended Sacred Heart Grammar School and Academy of the Sacred Hearts in Fall River, MA  graduating in 1944. Her parents resided at 73 Carroll St, New Bedford, MA when she was born.  She graduated from the Union Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. She attended Boston University School of Nursing and the University of Rhode island. For most of her married life she has been a homemaker. She was honored with the Good Samaritan Award of Catholic Family Services of Portsmouth, VA in May 1988. She was one of the founders of the Chesapeake, VA CROP WALK FOR HUNGER and is involved in a number of other community activities.
Eleanor has written one to four newsletters per year to family and friends since 1972. Copies of these letters have been saved and are in a three ring binder at each of the homes of her four children.

Eleanor married Francis Joseph McGill Jr son of Francis Joseph McGill SR and Bridget Agnes Veronica Connor on 27 Jun 1959 in Holy Name Ch, Fall River, MA. Francis was born on 8 Mar 1929 in Glenwood Ave, Pawtucket, RI. He was christened in 1929 in St Raymond Ch, Providence, RI. 

Frank was born on the second floor of a two family tenement house. The address was 255 Glenwood Avenue in the South Woodlawn Section of Pawtucket, RI. Later when his parents purchased the house they moved downstairs to 253 Glenwood. Frank attended St Raymond Parochial Grammar School, Providence; St Raphael Academy, Pawtucket and the University Of Rhode Island (Industrial Management).
When he was nine years of age he had an Evening Bulletin newspaper route (30 customers) in Providence. He was in the third grade in grammar school. He was peddling them on the afternoon of the "38" hurricane. He was able to deliver about half of them before he had to quit because of downed trees and powerlines. About 600 people were killed. He had a Pawtucket Times newspaper route in Pawtucket (100 customers) when he was in the seventh and eighth grade of grammar school. He still found time to blow the bugle in the St Raymond School band and serve as an altar boy at St Raymond's Church on North Main Street in Providence. He was on the school track and basketball team. On Sunday afternoons the neighborhood kids would attend the movies at the Hope Theater on Hope Street in Providence. The ticket cost nine cents. He and Billy Martindale were walking home from the theater one Sunday afternoon. Billy's father (a veteran of WWI) picked them up in his car. He said that the Japanese had just bombed Pearl Harbor.
When he was in high school he worked part time at Riverside and then Swanpoint cemeteries. He worked at the New England Bakery until they found out that he was fifteen years of age. The management questioned him as to why there was only a four month gap between his and his sister Marie's birthdays. 
He worked for short periods at Royal Electric Co, Miller Electric Co, General Cable Co and Fram Corp. all in Pawtucket. He served a four year apprenticeship, as an aviation metalsmith, at Quonset Point, Naval Air Station, RI; was employed over forty years at Naval Aviation Depot Quonset Point, RI and Naval Aviation Depot Norfolk, VA; retired as a supervisor in the Production Engineering Department at Naval Aviation Depot Norfolk in 1993. He was first an intelligence and reconnaisance scout and then an infantryman in a rifle company in Korea during that war (1952). He served with the 2nd Battalion, 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division in Korea. He received the Combat Infantry Badge.
When first married he and wife Eleanor lived in a second floor tenament on Chestnut Avenue in Cranston. They purchased their first home for eleven thousand dollars on Brandon Road in the Friendly Community area of Cranston. They sold the Brandon Road Dutch Colonial style home when Frank was transferred to Virginia. 
"Frank's hobby is genealogy," said Eleanor.

Francis and Eleanor had the following children:

22. Catherine Patricia Higgins (James Joseph, Patrick J, John) Catherine married Robert Joseph Osterman Sr

Robert and Catherine had four children:

23. Mary Ellen Higgins (James Joseph, Patrick J, John) Mary married Denis William Fermental.

25. Harold Joseph Higgins (William Michael, Patrick J, John) Harold married Mary Alice Brazil daughter of Hubert Wood Brazil and Elizabeth Belle Hooker on 10 Jul 1956 in Fort Benning, GA. Mary was born on 24 Jul 1928 in Columbus, GA. She died on 18 Aug 1983 in Fall River, MA. She was buried in St Patrick Cem, Fall River, MA.

26. John Porter Jr (Margaret A Higgins, Patrick J, John) was born in 1923. He is deceased.

John, a graduate of Notre Dame University, was the pilot of a B26 Maraudar bomber in the Ninth Air Force over Germany during WWII. After the war he worked as a construction engineer in South Bend, IN and southeast US.

John married Rosemarie Baker
