  • History/Journal - Fun ways to share your personal and family history.
  • Research - How to use basic methods, forms, records, terms, etc., to further your family history research.

Practice While You Learn

It is often helpful to open the tutorial and the program you are learning about (i.e. PAF, internet, etc.) in separate windows and position them side by side to “practice” what you are learning. If the PowerPoint tutorials are opening in “full screen” mode rather than in your browser window, try one of the following:

  • Win 95, 98SE & NT4
    • On the Windows Start menu, point to Programs, then click Windows Explorer.
    • On the View menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options.
    • Click the File Types tab.
    • In the Registered file types list, click to select PPS extension Microsoft PowerPoint Slideshow.
    • Click Edit.
    • Click to select the “Browse in same window” check box. Then click OK twice.
  • Win XP & 2000:
    • On the Windows Start menu, point to Programs, point to Accessories, then click Windows Explorer.
    • On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options.
    • Click the File Types tab.
    • In the Registered file types list, click to select PPS extension Microsoft PowerPoint Slideshow, then click Advanced.
    • Click to select the “Browse in same window” check box.
    • Then, click OK twice
