DUP Obituary Scrapbook (1933-1939)

    PAROWAN--Funeral services for Herman Daggett Bayles, former mayor and
prominent business man of Iron county, who died at a Salt Lake hospital 
Saturday at 6 p.m. following an operation on Friday, will be held Wednesday 
at 2 p.m. in the West Ward Chapel here, Bishop Hugh L. Adams, conducting.

    Mr. Bayles was born in Parowan, June 30, 1861, son of Bishop Herman D. and 
Dorothea Jensen Bayles. He was married to Sarah Jane Evans, July 2, 1895. 
Five of their six children survive.

    Mr. Bayles served as mayor of Parowan for two terms and was a member of 
the city council for four terms. He was a director of the Bank of Iron 
County, the Parowan Mercantile, and was a prominent stock raiser and farmer. 
He was an elder in the Church.

    Surviving him are, Mrs. Bayles. three sons, Herman Evan, Thomas Wendell, 
and Golden Bayles, all of Parowan; two daughters, Mrs. Phoebe Brenner, Santa 
Paula, Calif.; and Mrs. Eva May Guymon, Parowan. There are 11 grandchildren 
and the following sisters and brother, Mrs. Mary L. Orton, Parowan; Mrs. 
Orpha A. Decker, Cedar City; John P. Bayles, Parowan; Mrs. Edith A. Butt, 
Dove Creek, Colo.
