CEDAR CITY--Funeral services were held at Newcastle Friday for Mrs. Sophia
Elizabeth Harrison Forsyth, 81, pioneer resident of Iron and Washington
counties, who died here Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sophia
She was born in Salt Lake City on February 3, 1855, a daughter of Richard
and Mary Ann Whittaker Harrison, pioneers to Utah. On December 30, 1872, she
was married to Neil D. Forsyth in the Endowment house at Salt Lake City. The
couple was called to southern Utah soon after their marriage, and were
active in the early settlement of western Iron county and Washington county.
They resided at Pinto for many years, where Mrs. Forsyth was president of the
L. D. S. ward Relief society for 14 years.
They later moved to Newcastle in Iron county, where they had since
resided. Mr. Forsyth died several years ago.
She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Isabelle Knell, Mrs.
Cassie Christensen, Jessie T. Forsyth, Thomas W. Forsyth, all of Newcastle;
Mrs. Lucile Snow, St. George; Mrs. Sophia Jones, Cedar City. Forty-two
grandchildren and 15 greatgrandchildren.
The funeral services were in charge of Bishop John Tullis of Newcastle,
with interment in Newcastle cemetery.
