PAROWAN--Funeral services were held Wednesday in the Enoch ward for
Alexander Matheson, 89, an Indian war veteran, who died Monday at the home
of his son, Owen Matheson, in Midvalley.
Mr. Matheson was born in 1843. in Dundee, Scotland. a son of Daniel and
Catherine Treasurer Matheson. He came to America in 1862, settling first in
Panguitch, but later moving to Parowan. He married Lydia Evans of Wales in
1863 in Salt Lake.
Mr. Matheson was a school trustee, justice of the peace and president of
the Y. M. M. I. A. in Parowan. For many years he operated a flour mill and
invented a hand-operated elevator for a roller mill.
He is survived by the following sons: William, of Duncan, Arizona; Simon
A., Hugh, and Lorenzo, Parowan; Owen Matheson, Midvalley.
Interment was in the Parowan cemetery.
