James Charles Simkins, 74, of Springville, a brother of Wm. Simkins of Cedar City, died
Thursday night at his home, following a stroke that he suffered two weeks ago. Funeral
services were held Sunday afternoon, with burial made in the Evergreen cemetery in
Springville.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Simkins and Mrs. Adrian Haight left Saturday morning to be in
attendance at the funeral Sunday.
James Simkins was born at Cedar City August 20, 1858, a son of James C. and Mary Walker
Simkins, but had lived in Springville for the past 30 years. He had always been active
in LDS church work, being a high priest at the time of his death. He married Emily Jane
Gunn in the St. George temple in 1879.
Besides his brother William, the deceased is survived by his widow and eight sons and
daughters: James T. Simkins, Provo; Mrs. Thomas Garner, Salt Lake; Mrs. Roy Harrington,
Mrs. C. W. Bushard, Mrs. Will Phillips, Mrs. Arthur Taylor, George and Ray Simkins,
Springville; 12 grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. John G. Armstrong, Murray.
