VOLUME I - Cedar Hill Cemetery with the original 155 year old Locust Hill Cemetery.  The book contains an estimated 6,606 graves; has a map divided into sections; and is indexed.

There are 273 double sided pages. The book is bound with a plastic comb and a soft cover.  This book covers the largest cemetery in Alleghany County, VA. The first interment marked with a date is May 8, 1839. Great source of information for genealogists.

VOLUME II - Never printed before! 82 cemeteries and graveyards in Alleghany County, VA.

To list only a few: Lone Star, Hoke Chapel, Fletcher Chapel, Persinger Memorial, Mount Pleasant, and Falling Spring Cemeteries and the list goes on and on. These cemeteries have some of the county's earliest tombstones dating back to 1849. The book also includes a veterans list from various wars and is completely indexed. A vast amount of information.

VOLUME III -- Contains the documentation of the memorial markers in Alleghany Memorial Park. This Memorial Park is the newest in Alleghany County, started in 1959. Genealogists will want the information that this book holds. Death records from this period of time are hard to get, but if you have the information inscribed on the memorial markers you can complete your records of recent interments.

Also included..never printed before. Cemeteries and graveyards that could not be included in Volume II with information of cemeteries that were moved when I-64 came through Alleghany County. Many little known graveyards are included. These cemeteries are Alleghany Memorial Park, Mount Carmel, Sharon Union/Baptist Church, Sunrise, Central Advent Christian Church, Rose Hill, Sinking Springs Methodist Church, Low Moor Mines (Black), and 28 Family Graveyards.

Pictorial Memories

The Alleghany Highlands Genealogical Society announces the publication of their first pictorial album. The album's title represents it's contents. Pictorial Memories is a collection of 375 photographs copied from Alleghany County residents private collections as well as those persons living out of the area whose ancestors lived in Alleghany County. Not only have the photographs been preserved, each picture is captioned with genealogical information. Pictorial Memories has 150 pages and is indexed.

These birth records were copied from the original records at the Clerk of Courts, Alleghany County Courthouse, in Covington, VA.

There are five volumes containing a total of 3,920 births. All five volumes are in alphabetical order and indexed. They list the father's name, age, occupation and race. Also included is the mother's maiden name, age, place of birth and race.

VOLUMES I-II-III-V -- Cost for each Vol. $15.00

VOLUME IV costs $12.00

VOLUME I - 1853-1859 Birth Records. A total of 520 births. This Vol. also contains a copy of paper containing one 1836 birth, however, this paper is not an official record.

VOLUME III - 1870-1878 Birth Records. A total of 980 births.

VOLUME IV - 1912-1916 Birth Records. A total of 329 births form the Boiling Spring area in Alleghany County, VA. It also lists a number after the birth name which refers to the number of children born to this mother.

VOLUME V - 1912-1917 Birth Records. A total of 1,254 births.
