Augusta County Lookups

We need volunteers. If you have any resources that pertain to Augusta County genealogy that you wish to share please let us know what you have and how people can contact you.

A great reference for Augusta County researchers is Lyman Chalkley's Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish Setttlement in Virginia, Extracted from the Original Court Records of Augusta County, 1745-1800 (Baltimore, Genealogical Publishing Co., 1966). Any Augusta County researcher who hasn't seen this should first check what we have online.

The Chalkley project, which began in the fall of 1996 was completed in August 1999 and received favorable notice and a "Best of the Internet for Genealogists" award in early September.

Books

Due to concerns about copyright infringement, we cannot quote long passages from copyrighted sources. However, if substantial information is found, we can tell you the nature of the information and do our best to help you locate a copy of that source.

Please be specific in your request; specify given names as well as surnames and time period of interest. DO NOT ask for "all Smiths in the county." Remember, these people are doing you a big favor and be considerate.

Please place "Augusta County Lookup" in the subject line of your e-mail request.
