Pursuant and in Obedience to the within Commission we the subscribers have examined Mary Smart and Sarah Moodie privily and apart from their Husbands whether they do relinquish their right of Dower in the said Lands sold by their Husbands to Buckner Harwell, and freely and voluntarily without any threats or persuasions from their husbands agree that shall be recorded in the said Court of Brunswick given under our hands this nineteenth Day of January 1778 . . . signed by John Jones Junr. and Joseph Jones. At a Court held for Brunswick the 26th Day of January 1778 (sic) This Indenture was proved by the oaths of William Walker, Matthew Harris, & Samuel Harwell the witnesses thereto and together with the Commission annexed and a Certificate of the Execution thereof ordered to be recorded. This Indenture made this twenty eight Day of June, 1785 BETWEEN Richard Elliott of the County of Brunswick and Martha his wife of the one part, and Thomas Edmunds of the same County of the other part . . . for a sufficient and valuable consideration paid to the said Richard Elliott by John Coleman of the County of Halifax and allowed in a purchase between them, the said Thomas Edmunds having since become a purchaser of the said Coleman (and no Deed having passed from the said Elliott to him the said Coleman) for the consideration of six hundred pounds to be paid in Certificates and one hundred & fifty pounds in Cash They the said Richard Elliott & Martha his wife . . . in complyance with the Letter of the said John Coleman (hereunto annexed) . . . do grant make over and confirm unto the said Thomas Edmunds . . . all that Tract or parcel of Land which he the said Richard Elliott purchased of John Seymour Parish and was formerly the property of Joseph Parish lying on Great Creek in this County and according to the known and Lawful bounds thereof . . . containing by estimation four hundred and fifty acres of Land . . . Signed by Richard Elliott and Martha Elliott. Colo. Elliott, Sir, I have this Day sold Colo. Thomas Edmunds the Tract of Land I had of you, as you have never made me a Deed for the Land you are to make the Deed to him whenever he requires it. Your compliance will oblige, your humble servant, John Coleman. Dated May 21, 1785, and witnessed by Sterling Edmunds. Brunswick County Court the 28th of June 1785. This Indenture was acknowledged by Richard Elliott a partie thereto, and together with a Letter from John Collman (sic) annexed thereto Ordered to be Recorded. Deed Book 14, page 109.

This Indenture made the third day of June, 1785 BETWEEN John Mitchell and Diannah his wife of Brunswick County of the one part, and Thomas Edmunds of the same County of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and twenty one pounds four Shillings . . . doth grant bargain and sell, alien, enfeoff, release & Confirm unto the said Thomas Edmunds . . . one certain Tract or parcel of Land situate lying and being in the County of Brunswick on the head of Sturgeon run containing by estimation four hundred & four acres . . . and bounded as followeth (to wit) by Parker's line, Briggs's, Edmunds's, Pritchett's & Wright's lines, . . . Signed by John Mitchell and Diannah Mitchell, and witnessed by Sterling Edmunds, Christopher Dameron, Lewis Brown, and John Wilson. Brunswick County Court the 28th of June 1785. This Indenture was acknowledged by John Mitchell a partie thereto and Ordered to be Recorded. Deed Book 14, page 110.
