This Indenture made this twenty second Day of May, 1780 BETWEEN John Bishop of the County of Brunswick of the one part and Laurance House of the same County of the other part whereas a certain Nicholas Blanks Junr. of the state of North Carolina by Indenture bearing date the eleventh Day of January one thousand seven hundred and seventy nine for the securing the payment of a Debt of one hundred and twenty one pounds four shillings due from him to the said John Bishop did convey the fee simple estate of two hundred and eighty five acres of Land to the said John Bishop in Trust to sell and dispose thereof for the best price he could get and after discharging the said debt interest and expenses of the sale to restore the surplus to the said Nicholas Blanks, And whereas the said Nicholas Blanks hath since the making the Indenture aforesaid made payment of his Debt so as aforesaid due to the said John Bishop and hath also agreed for the sale of the said Land with the said Lurance (sic) House who in consequence thereof hath received a Deed from the said Nicholas Blanks conveyed to the said House and his heirs the title of the said Blanks and his heirs in the said Lands which deeds are duly recorded in the County Court of Brunswick reference being thereto had may more fully appear And the said Luarance (sic) House being desirous of receiving from the said John Bishop a Deed conveying all his right and title in the premises Now this Indenture Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of five shillings to the said John Bishop in hand paid by the said Laurance House the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged he the said John Bishop hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said Laurance House and his heirs all the above mentioned tract or parcel of Land lying and being in the Parish of Saint Andrew and said County of Brunswick containing two hundred and eighty five acres and bounded by the bounds of Richard Stewart, James Walker, Drury Stith's entry and the aforesaid Laurance House with the houses and Houses ways waters water courses profits commodities advantages hereditaments and appurtenances . . . Signed by John Bishop and witnessed by Matt Davis, John Hoobbs. At a Court held for Brunswick County the 26th Day of June 1780. This Indenture was Acknowledged by John Bishop a party thereto and Ordered to be recorded. Deed Book 14, page 21.

This Indenture made this thirtyeth Day of December, 1779 BETWEEN Edmund Browder and Ann his wife of the County of Brunswick of the one part and William Baugh of the same County of the other part WITNESSETH . . . for and in consideration of the sum of three thousand five hundred pounds . . . doth grant bargain and sell alien enfeoff and confirm unto the said William Baugh . . . all that tract and parcel of Land situate lying and being in the County of Brunswick and bounded as followeth (to wit) BEGINNING at the mouth of a branch at Poplar Creek thence up the said branch as it tends to a popler in the head of the said branch thence south thirty seven poles to a white oak in an old line thence south eighty three degrees west forty four poles to a white oak thence south forty degrees west forty nine poles to a white oak thence south twenty four degrees west twenty four poles to red oak thence west one hundred and two poles to a white oak in Walkers line along his line north fifteen degrees west three hundred and fifteen poles to popler Creek and thence up the said Creek as it tends to the BEGINNING containing three hundred and sixty two acres also Mrs. Rebecca Delonys right of Dower of and in about one hundred acres adjoining the tract of Land aforesaid on the west side and bounded as followeth (to wit) on Popler Creek and along Walkers old line line (sic) on the east side & noted long ridge on the south side extending from Walkers old line near the road down the popler about the middle of an old field nearly against Frederick Jones's Plantation . . . Signed by Edmund Browder and Anne Browder and witnessed by John Neal, John Epps, Robert Hicks, Stephen Ellis, and Daniel Baugh. At a Court held for Brunswick County the 26th Day of June 1780. This Indenture was proved by the Oaths of John Neal John Eppes and Daniel Baugh witnesses thereto and Ordered to be recorded. Deed Book 14, page 22.

This Indenture made the [             ] Day of [                  ], 1780 BETWEEN Robert Owen of Brunswick County of the one part and Harbert Harwell of the same County of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of one thousand pounds . . . doth bargain, sell, alien and confirm unto the said Harbert Harwell . . . one certain tract or parcel of Land situate in the said County of Brunswick containing by estimation one hundred acres and bounded as followeth BEGINNING at Cuthbert Smith's corner black Jack near the road, thence along his line south seventy degrees west one hundred and eighty poles to a Pine on the Ready Creek, thence up the said Creek as it meanders to the mouth of Briant's Branch, and up the said branch as it meanders to a pine, thence a new line south fifty eight degrees east one hundred and forty two poles to a black Jack on the said Smith's line, thence along the said line south twenty degrees east thirty poles to the Beginning . . . Signed by Robert Owen and witnessed by Henry Bishop and James Harwell. At a Court held for Brunswick County the 26th Day of June 1780. This Indenture was acknowledged by Robert Owen a party thereto and Ordered to be Recorded. Deed Book 14, page 24.

This Indenture made this twenty second day of May, 1780 BETWEEN William Rainey of the County of Brunswick of the one part and John Duggar of Dinwiddie County of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of three thousand pounds . . . doth bargain sell alien enfeoff release and confirm unto the said John Duggar . . . one certain Tract piece or parcel of Land containg (sic) two hundred and twenty acres . . . which said two hundred and twenty acres is bounded as follows BEGINNING at Nicholas Proctors' old line at a white oak in the branch, thence up the said branch east to a Shrub white oak at the head of the branch near the House, thence down the branch to the rockey run, thence up the run to a Maple marked at the old line, thence along the old line to his corner between three Trees marked inwards, thence along the said line to Clacks line, thence along the said line to Morrises line, thence along the said line to his corner Pine, thence along the said line to a black Jack, thence along that line to a Shrub white oak, thence along to a black Jack, thence along the said line to Proctors' line aforesaid thence along his said line to his first station . . . Signed by William Raney and Mary Raney (her mark), and witnessed by Benjamin Blick, David Andrews, and Alexander Andrews. At a Court held for Brunswick County the 26th Day of June 1780. This Indenture was acknowledged by William Raney and Mary his wife parties thereto, She having been first Privily examined as the Law directs, and ordered to be recorded. Deed Book 14, page 25.

This Indenture made this 16th day of September 1779 BETWEEN Jesse Tatum of the County of Brunswick of the one part and Joseph Phips of the same County of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of thirty pounds . . . doth bargain sell alien release and confirm unto the said Joseph Phips . . . one certain Tract or parcel of Land Containing seventy six acres lying and being in the County of Brunswick and bounded as followeth BEGINNING at a white oak on the North side of cold water run thence along Joseph Phippes old line south eighty three degrees West twenty eight poles to a red oake (sic) then north eighty eight degrees west thirty eight poles to a white oak Phips's old corner North fifteen degrees west one hundred forty eight poles to a red oak then north sixty degrees east eighty four poles to a Possimmon on Cold water thence up the meanders of the said run to the BEGINNING formerly granted the said Jesse Tatum by Patent bearing date the fifth Day of July one thousand seven hundred and seventy four . . . and the said Jesse Tatum and Elizabeth his wife for themselves and their heirs do hereby warrant and forever defend the said Land . . . Signed by Jesse Tatum and Elizabeth Tatum and witnessed by James Fips, Robert Davis, and George Morris. At a Court held for Brunswick County the 28th Day of Feby. 1780. This Indenture was proved by the oaths of Robert Davis and George Morris Witnesses thereto. And at a Court held for the same County the 26th Day of June following the said Indenture was proved by the oath of James Fips the other witness thereto and Ordered to be recorded. This Indenture made this twenty fourth Day of November, 1779 BETWEEN John Cocke and Lucy his wife of the County of Brunswick of the one part and William Stark of the same County of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of four thousand pounds . . . do grant bargain and sell unto the said William Stark . . . all that Plantation Tract or parcel of Land whereon the said John Cocke now lives lying and being in the Parish of Saint Andrew and said County of Brunswick containing by estimation two hundred and ninety five acres or thereabouts bounded as followeth (Viz) BEGINNING at a red oak corner between said Cocke and Fredrick Harwell thence by Harwells line east one hundred and forty eight poles to his corner white oak thence north twenty five degrees west eighty three poles to his corner hickory thence south seventy seven degrees east one hundred and forty seven poles to his corner red oak thence North fifty five degrees east eight poles to Morris Swamp thence down the meanders of the run of the said swamp to a large rock stone a corner of Mr. John Battes Land formerly Mr. Eatons thence by his Land south one hundred and forty five poles to his corner small white oak thence south twenty degrees east thirty four poles to Vaughans corner red oak thence by his lines south eighty four degrees west two hundred and seventy poles to a corner small hickory thence by Hamiltons line to a small white oak on the main road thence up the main Road to a large red oak a corner between John Loftin and the said Cocke thence through the old field in a direct line to the head of a Slash thence down the branch to a small black Gum and thence to the large red oak the beginning . . . Signed by John Cocke and Lucy Cocke, and witnessed by Robert Walker, William Maclin, John Hamilton, and Fredrick Maclin. Deed Book 14, page 27.

The Commonwealth of Virginia To Thomas Stith, James Wall and Littleberry Robinson Gentlemen Greeting WHEREAS John Cock and Lucy his wife by their certain Indenture of bargain and sale bearing date the twenty fourth Day of November 1779 have sold and conveyed unto William Stark Junr. the fee simple Estate in and to two hundred and ninety five acres of Land . . . and whereas the said Lucy cannot conveniently travel to the Court . . . to make acknowledgement of the said conveyance Therefore we do give unto you or any two of you power to receive the Acknowledgment which the said Lucy shall be willing to make before you of the conveyance aforesaid contained in the said Indenture which is hereto annexed. And we do therefor command you or any two of you that you do personally go to the said Lucy and receive her Acknowledgement of the same and examine her privily and apart from the said John Cocke her husband Whether she doth the same freely and voluntarily without the persuasions or threats of her said Husband . . . that you distinctly and openly certify as thereof in our said Court under your hands and seals sending then there the said Indenture and this writ Witness Peter Pelham Junr. Clerk of our said Court the tenth Day of December 1779 in the fourth year of the Commonwealth. Deed Book 14, page 28.

As commanded and empowered by the within Commission we did personally go to the within mentioned Lucy Cocke and received her Acknowledgment of the Indenture from the within mentioned John Cock and the said Lucy to William Starke Junr. hereto annexed and examined her privily and apart from her said husband who then she did the same freely and voluntarily without the Threats or Persuasions of her said husband which she declared she did and that she was willing the said Deed should be recorded in the County Court of Brunswick, given under our hands and seals this eleventh Day of December 1779. Signed by James Wall and Littleberry Robinson. At a Court held for Brunswick County the 27th Day of March 1780. This Indenture was proved by the of Fredrick Maclin a witness thereto and at a Court held for the said county the 26th Day of June following the said Indenture was proved by the oaths of William Maclin and John Hamilton Witnesses thereto and together with the Commission annexed and certificate of the executor thereof Ordered to be recorded. This Indenture made this 25th Day of June 1780 BETWEEN Hubbard Peebles and Amy his wife of the County of Brunswick of the one part and Joseph Peebles of the same County of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds . . . doth grant bargain and sell alien enfeoff and confirm unto the said Joseph Peebles. . . one certain Tract or parcel of Land situate lying and being the aforesaid County of Brunswick Containing by estimation twenty five acres . . . and bounded as followeth (to wit) BEGINNING at a corner red oak at Lewis Charles line thence along the said Charles line to a corner hickory on a branch at the said Joseph Peebles's line thence along said Peebles's line to a corner red oak thence to corner black gum thence by a line of marked Trees as it meanders to the BEGINNING . . . Signed by Hubbard Peebles and Amy Pebbles (her mark). At a Court held for Brunswick County the 26th Day of June 1780. This Indenture was acknowledged by Hubbard Peebles and Amy his wife parties thereto she having been first privily examined as the Law directs And Ordered to be recorded. Deed Book 14, page 29.

This Indenture made the tenth Day of June, 1780 BETWEEN Hubbard Peebles and Amy his wife of the County of Brunswick of the one part and Mark Crowder of the same County of the other part WITNESSETH that the said Hubbard Peebles and Mary (as in the original) his wife for and in consideration of the sum of four thousand Pounds . . . the receipt whereof the said Hubbard Peebles and Amy his wife doth acknowledge they the said Hubbard Peebles and Mary (as in the original) his wife hath granted bargained and sold enfeoffed and confirmed and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell alien enfeoff and confirm unto the said Mark Crowder . . . one certain Tract or parcel of Land situate lying and being in the aforesaid County of Brunswick containing by estimation three hundred and sixty one acres . . . and bounded as followeth (to wit) BEGINNING at a corner hickory on the ready Creek at John Robertson's line thence along the said Robertsons line to a corner tree on Peter Freemans line thence along the said Freemans line to a corner Pine on John Simses line thence along the said Simses line to a corner Persimmon thence along thence along (sic) the Simses line to a corner shrug white oak thence along the said Simses line to a corner hickory thence along a line of marked Trees to a hickory on the ready Creek thence down the said Creek to the BEGINNING . . . Signed by Hubbard Peebles and Amy Peebles (her mark), and witnessed by Fredrick Green, Sterling Peebles, and Cary James. At a Court held for Brunswick County the 26th Day of June 1780.
