This Indenture made this tenth Day of June 1780 BETWEEN Hubbard Peebles and Amy his wife of the County of Brunswick of the one part and Mark Crowder of the said County of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of five pounds . . . do grant bargain sell alien enfeoff and confirm unto the said Mark Crowder . . . one Tract or parcel of Land lying and being in the said County of Brunswick containing by estimation three acres and bounded as followeth (to wit) BEGINNING at the mouth of the Blew branch thence upon the said branch to a small butterwood thence along a line of marked trees to a Pine on the south side of the Mill Pond, thence across the said Pond a straight course to a gurie (?), thence down the reedy Creek by a line of marked trees to a hickory on the said Creek thence down the said Creek to the BEGINNING at the mouth of the Blew branch aforesaid and also the Mill across the said Reedy Creek within the bounds of the said Land . . . Signed by Hubbard Peebles and Amy Peebles (her mark), and witnessed by Fredrick Green, Sterling Peebles, and Cary James. At a Court held for Brunswick County the 26th Day of June 1780. This Indenture made this ninth Day of February 1780 BETWEEN Sarah Mason of Meherrin Parish in the County of Brunswick of the one part and Thomas Claiborne of the aforesaid Parish and County of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of twenty pounds . . . doth give grant bargain sell and enfeoffed and confirmed unto the said Thomas Claiborne . . . one certain Tract or parcel of Land situate lying and being in the County aforesaid containing one hundred acres . . . lying within the following bounds (to wit) BEGINNING at a Corner spanish oak on Steeds Church road and running (sic) southly (sic) a line of new choped (sic) trees to a maple on the middle branch thence down the meanders of the said branch to a corner small ash thence east by a line of new choped (sic) trees to a corner small pine on Cary James line thence north by said James's line across the Indian head branch to a spanish oak on Hixes line thence along the said line to Steeds Church road thence by the said road to a spanish oak the beginning . . . Signed by Sarah Mason and witnessed by Joseph Mason, Michael Singleton (his mark), and George Wright. At a Court held for Brunswick County the 26th Day of June 1780. This Indenture was proved by the oaths of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. Deed Book 14, page 33.
This Indenture made the 21st Day of July 1780 BETWEEN Lewis Lanier of the County of Dinwiddie Taylor and Nancy his wife of the one part, and Sam Bush of the County of Brunswick of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of two pounds seventeen shillings . . . do grant bargain and sell alien and confirm unto the said Sam Bush . . . a small piece or parcel of Land situate lying and being in the County of Brunswick aforesaid adjoining the eastward of the Land whereon the said Sam Bush now lives containg (sic) by estimation nine and a half acres . . . and bounded as followeth (to wit) BEGINNING at a marked gum on the banks of the River Meherrin a little to the eastward of the said Bushes spring branch near old walnut tree that is fallen into said River which was formerly the beginning line Tree of the said Bush's Land and the Land hereby conveyed and running thence about north to a Mulberry Post and from thence along the said Bushes fence north a little eastwardly to a marked Hickory thence about south west to a small sicamore (sic) standing opposite to the said Bush's dwelling houses from thence to the said Bushes upper spring and from thence down the meanders of the spring branch to the first beginning marked Gum . . . This Indenture made the sixth Day of July 1780 BETWEEN John Smith of the County of Brunswick of the one part and Edmund Wilkins of the County aforesaid of the other . . . for and in consideration of the sum of three thousand six hundred and eighty pounds . . . do grant bargain sell unto the said Edmund Wilkins . . . one tract or parcel of Land lying and being in the County of Brunswick and on the north side Meherrin River containing three hundred and sixty eight acres . . . bounded as followeth (to wit) BEGINNING at said Wilkins's & Colo. William Allan's corner white oak thence along the said Allans line to the Courthouse road thence up the said road to Samuel Bush's line thence along the said Bush's line to said Edmund Wilkins's line a corner Pine on the whortleberry pond . . . Signed by John Smith. At a Court held for Brunswick County the 24th Day of July 1780. This Indenture was acknowledged by John Smith a party thereto & Ordered to be recorded. Deed Book 14, page 35.
This Indenture made the twenty sixth Day of February, 1780 BETWEEN Nathan Pepper and his wife Anne of the Parish of Saint Andrews and County of Brunswick and State of Virginia of the one part and Matthew Harris of the County and State of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of one thousand pounds . . . doth grant bargain and sell alien enfeoff and confirm unto the said Matthew Harris . . . one certain tract or parcel of Land Containing by Estimation two hundred Acres . . . in the Parish and County aforesaid and bounded as follows (Viz) BEGINNING at a Corner Oak in Lewis Parhams line thence along Parhams line to a Corner red Oak thence along Parhams line to the first Road where Harwell corners thence keeping the road to Harris's line where it crosses the road thence keeping Harris's line to the first station . . . Signed by Nathan Pepper and witnessed by William Edwards, Randol Daniel and William Parsons (his mark). At a Court held for Brunswick County the 26th Day of June 1780. This Indenture Memorandum and Receipt were proved by the oaths of Randol Daniel and William Parsons witnesses thereto. And at a Court held for the said County the 24th Day of July following the said Indenture Memorandum and receipt were proved by the oaths of William Edwards the other witness thereto & Ordered to be recorded. This Indenture made the seventeenth Day of June 1780 BETWEEN John Ingram of the County of Brunswick and Jemima his wife of the one part and William Ogburn of said County of the other part . . for and in consideration of the sum of ten thousand pounds of Crop Tobacco . . . do grant bargain sell and confirm unto the said William Ogburn . . . all that Tract of Land situate lying and being in the County of Brunswick on Shining Creek containing by Estimation eighty nine acres . . . bounded as follows BEGINNING on Shining Creek on William Stith's line, thence along the said Stith's line to a choped (sic) line of Joseph Ingram's thence along the said line to a branch thence down the said branch to Shining Creek thence down the said Creek to the BEGINNING . . . Signed by John Ingram and Jemima Ingram (her mark). At a Court held for Brunswick County the 24th Day of July, 1780. This Indenture was acknowledged by John Ingram and Jemima his wife parties thereto she having been first privily examined as the Law directs and Ordered to be recorded. Deed Book 14, page 38.
This Indenture made the twenty first Day of May, 1780 BETWEEN Colen Campbell of the Parish of Saint Andrew and County of Brunswick and State of Virginia of the one part and James Williams of the aforesaid Parish and County of Brunswick and State of Virginia of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of thirty pounds . . . have given granted and bargained sold and conveyed confirmed assigned and let over to the said James Williams . . . one certain Tract or parcel of Land lying and being in the County of Brunswick in Virginia containing one hundred acres taken out of the Tract of Land whereon Colen Campbell now lives it being grant of a Patent granted to Walter Campbell bearing date And bounded as followeth (to wit) BEGINNING at a white oak on Harrison's line, thence it is bounded by Land of Daniel Mason to a white oak on Campbell's line, thence along his line to a spanish oak by the road thence along the road to a black oak, thence along a line of Marked Trees to the Creek, thence down the Creek to a gum on Harrison's line, thence on his line to a red oak corner tree still on his line to the Beginning . . . and the said Collen Campbell for himself his heirs executors and administrator doth covenant grant promise and agree to and with the said James Williams . . . Signed by Colen Campbell and witnessed by Laurance House, David Andrews, and John Turbifill Junr. At a Court held for Brunswick County the 24th Day of July 1780. This Indenture was Acknowledged by Colen Campbell a Party thereto and ordered to be recorded. Deed Book 14, page 39.
This Indenture made the 20th Day of May 1780 BETWEEN Lewis Lanier of the County of Dinwiddie and Anne his wife of the one part and Fredrick Whitington of Brunswick County of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of seven hundred pounds . . . doth grant bargain and sell unto the said Fredrick Whittington . . . all that certain tract piece or parcel of Land situated lying and being on Hicks's Branch in the aforesaid County of Brunswick containing one hundred and fifty acres, be the same more or less - one hundred acres part thereof is bounded as by letters Patent granted unto Robert Powell bearing date the third Day of August one thousand seven hundred and seventy one reference thereunto being had will more fully appear, and fifty acres the residue thereof is bounded as followeth (to wit) BEGINNING at a small white oak on Allens Road thence down the said Road to the line where the above mentioned hundred Acres crosses the said Road thence North, North East thirty eight poles to a shrub white Oak, a corner between the said Fredrick Whittington and Fredrick Grigg thence along a new choped (sic) line, West one hundred and twenty six poles to a black Jack, another corner between the said Whittington & Grigg, thence along the said new choped (sic) line south ninety four Poles to Allens Road at the BEGINNING . . .
