This Indenture made this 23rd Day of May 1791 BETWEEN William Atkison & Sarah his wife of the County of Brunswick of the one part & James Vaughan, Benjamin Bass, & James Bruce of the same County of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of five shillings . . . do grant bargain & sell unto the said James Vaughan, Benjamin Bass, & James Bruce . . . one certain tract or parcel of land for the use of religious worship lying & being in the County of Brunswick aforesaid containing one acre of land . . . and bounded as followeth (to wit) BEGINNING at a branch on a white oak on Atkinson's line thence South to a post oak a corner from thence East to a red oak from thence North to a turkey oak on the said branch thence down the branch to the BEGINNING . . . for the use of the religious worship of God . . . Signed by William Atkison and Sarah Atkison. Brunswick County Court May 23rd 1791. This Indenture of Bargain & Sale between William Atkison & Sarah his [sic] of the one part & James Vaughan, Benja. Bass, & James Bruce of the other part was acknowledged by the said William Atkison & Sarah his wife parties thereto to be their act & deed & ordered to be recorded previous to which acknowledgment the said Sarah being privily examined as the law directs did voluntarily assent thereto.
