This Indenture made this 2nd Day of June 1791 BETWEEN Lewis Hicks and Sarah his wife of the County of Brunswick of the one part and John Hicks Bass of the said County of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred & fifty pounds . . . doth for themselves . . . grant bargain sell alien release & confirm unto the said John Hicks Bass . . . one certain tract or parcel of land containing two hundred & thirty seven acres . . . lying and being in the County of Brunswick and bounded by the lands of Thomas Mosely Isaac Mosely Benja. Mosely & Grief Harwell . . . Signed by Lewis Hicks and Salley Hicks and witnessed by Jas. Frame, John Love, and Jas. Smith Senr. Brunswick County Court June 27th 1791. This Indenture of Bargain & Sale was acknowledged by Lewis Hicks & Salley his wife parties thereto to be their act & deed and ordered to be recorded previous to which acknowledgement the said Salley being privily examined as the law directs did voluntarily assent thereto.
