George the third by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith &c To Peter Copeland and William Witcher Gentlemen Greeting Whereas James Hicks Jr. and Frances his Wife by their Certain Indenture of Bargain and Sale bearing date the twenty fifth Day of November 1772 Have Sold and Conveyed unto Thomas Claiborne the fee simple Estate of and in one certain Tract or Parcel of Land lying and being in the Parish of Meherrin in the County of Brunswick containing Six Hundred and thirty eight acres. . . and whereas the said Frances cannot Conveniently Travel to our Court of our said County of Brunswick to make Acknowledgment. . . 3 May 1775. In obedience to the within Writ we have examined the within named Frances and have received her acknowledgment that she relinquishers her right of Dower to the Lands within mentioned Certified under our Hands and Seals this 23d May 1776.
