LINDSEY, CARLTON - I am looking for any available information on the LINDSEY and CARLTON families in Brunswick County. John CARLTON and William LINDSEY were both in the County in the 1750s, as eveidenced by land records. In 1757 William LINDSEY granted land on Wildcat Creek to John CARLTON. There is some reason to suppose that John's wife Agatha was a daughter of William LINDSEY, and John and Agatha named a son Lindsey CARLTON. It is also believed that John's sister Mary CARLTON married James LINDSEY, a son of William and his wife Jane ? By 1797 James LINDSEY and his sons Carlton, Caleb, John and Micajah were buying and selling land in Rutherford County NC and the Spartenburgh SC area. I am particularly interested in any information which would confirm or deny the LINDSEY/CARLTON connection amd provide clues to William and James LINDSEY's birthplaces.

CHAMBLESS/CHAMBLISS - I have a huge puzzlement which I hope somebody can help with. In Meherrin Parish, Brunswick County, Virginia, in 1760, a HENRY CHAMBLESS bought land in Meherrin Parish, Brunswick County from Thomas and Sarah Powell. It was Located on the South side of Beddingsfield Creek. In 1761, Henry Chambless, of Prince George County, bought land in Meherrin Parish, Brunswick County, Virginia, from Thomas Powell and wife Sarah. . .located on the North side of Beddingfield's Creek. The deed was withnessed by: Henry Chambless and John Chambless. Since a purchaser could not witness his own deed of purchase, it is obvious that we have two adult men named Henry Chambless in Meherrin Parish, Brunswick County, Virginia , one on the South Side of Beddingfield's Creek and one on the North side of Beddingfield's Creek. One of these men became identified as HENRY CHAMBLESS, SR., and the other as HENRY CHAMBLESS. JR. They were first cousins of approximately the same age. Henry, Sr. sold his land in 1778 and moved to North Carolina. In 1778/9, a third HENRY CHAMBLESS, a younger 1st cousin bought 100 acres in Brunswick County, Virginia, and assumed the identification, HENRY CHAMBLESS, SR. Can anyone confirm this was a practice , for the purpose of identification and/or keeping the records separated? This is the way I see the puzzle. Others do not agree. I need Help! One of these Henrys CHAMBLESS became known as Henry Chambliss of Greensville County, Virginia. The later Henry CHAMBLESS who identified himself as "SENIOR" died and left a will in Brunswick County in 1784. I am stumped! Any help would be forever appreciated. I've been at this thing for 30 years and it still is a mystery. Will trade information. Mary M. Chambless, 309 South 4th Street, Davis, Oklahoma.. 73030. Thank you.

SISSON, SISSOM - Thomas SISSON, 1662-1731, immigrated 1683 in Henrico Co. in bond. By 1718 he was a landowner in both Surry and Brunswick counties, identified in the deed books of both counties, with the name ending in an 'm' on occasion. We don't know who is wife was, but she was born in Surry. We have his will and children: Thomas, Elizabeth, Mary, Ann, Elizabeth, and Stephen, all born in the 1690s. These children associated in land deals with LANIERs, DENTONs, MACLINs, COOKs up thru the 1770s We are not sure about the children of any of the sons, but are fairly sure that one of them became the grandfather of a James and a Wm. both born in the 1780s and moved to TN, probably right after the Rev. and became known as SISSOM. Would appreciate any info.
