Winnifred married John WOODWARD in Surry County, North Carolina about 1780. John WOODWARD was the son of Peter WOODWARD born about 1730 in Virginia. The only record I have found is for an Addison Powell who lived there in the 1800s and owned the mineral spring and spa at Powellton. His parents were John Hnery Lewis (also referred to as William Henry Lewis) and Mary Eliza Simmons. His brothers were Edward R. Lewis (b. +/- 1847), John H. Lewis, and Clayton Lewis. Channing and his brothers all came north to Massachusetts after the Civil War. Edward R. Lewis married Mary A. Carter, also of Virginia, possibly Lawrenceville. WILLIAMS - I am at present seeking all data on a HUKEY WILLIAMS who was in Brunswick Co Va. 1720-60 He was quite the hero in his day. The story goes that while riding his horse he heard screams-and went to investigate and found a woman in distress by two men molesting her. Hukey(odd name-we don't know where he got this name from (probably a surname of a grandparent.) I have reason to believe they are connected with the family of Robert GEE of St. Andrews Parish, Brunswick Co., VA. Robert GEE Sr. was in Brunswick as early as 1739. Based on deed records, his neighbors included Nicholas LANIER, Nathaniel HARRISON, Samuel HARWELL, William BROWDER, Sackfield BREWER and others. ALEXANDER - Searching for any information relating to John ALEXANDER. He patented 900 acres, on the south side of the Roanoke River, on 13 Oct 1727. He and Martha had (at least/only?) one son, Robert, b. Feb 1733 and recorded in the Bristol Parish Register. John probably died before Feb 1738. His widow, Martha, later kept a ferry across the river from Alexander's to Keith's landing (ferry approved by county court on 05 Mar 1741). She later remarried to a Richard Pepper. THORNTON - I am looking for parents of Sterling (Starlin) Thornton born 15 Feb. 1776, I believe in Brunswick Co. VA. I think he is the son of William Thornton and Sarah Goodrich who were married in Brunswick or Greensville Co. in 1774 and had two sons, Sterling and William before their father died in 1778. He moved to Rutherford County where his father Burrell Sims died about 1783. Littleton Sims married Hannah Mitchell in Rutherford County, NC in 1791 and were the parents of James, Jane, Doctor Littleton (may be Squire), Andrew Hampton, William R., Rachel, and Elizabeth. Squire Sims moved to IN, Andrew Hampton Sims remained in Rutherford County, while the others moved to the Union County, GA area. Littleton Sims died in Rutherford County in 1844.
