HEGARTY - If you are descended from a Peter Hegarty (Hagarty), who was born in County Cork, Ireland, in the 1820s and who emigrated to Virginia in the 1840s, possibly to Brunswick County, I would be very interested in talking to you. I am publishing a book this spring on the Hegarty family (he had five brothers and two sisters, most of whom settled in Canada), their origins in Ireland (I have found their farm and house they lived in) and the lives the eight children carved out in North America. Peter’s younger brother Michael joined him in Virginia and spent his life there, dying in an accident at Richmond in 1879. I have next to no information about Peter and I really want to include him in this book. He may have married a Foley, but I don’t know. If you can help, please e-mail me. If not, thanks for your time and sorry for the intrusion. P.S. If you’re descended from any of Peter’s brothers, Michael, Cornelius, Timothy, John or Daniel, or sisters Ellen and Bridget, I’d also be happy to hear from you. Thanks again, Jim Hagarty

NEWSOME - Looking for any information on Barham Newsome, married to Mary (Taylor). Barham and Mary had several children, the only one I know anything about is Johnny Newsome, my grandfather. There may be some connection (probably on Mary's side) with the High family of Brunswick County (Triplette/Valentines area). The name Barham is probably a family name taken from his mother's side. It appears that the Newsome name may have come to Brunswick county from Isle of Wight or Southhampton county.

PETWAY - PETWAY: JESSIE AND JAMES, OF AFRICAN AMERICAN DESCENT, Originally from Tennesee. I am looking for any information you may have regarding the whereabouts of any relatives in Brunswick County,Va. who are Petways or could be related. The above mentioned persons were born about 1882 and 1880. There were 3 other brothers and 2 sisters whose names and whereabouts are unknown. Information gleaned from a copy of "STITH SLAVE SALES" indicates that there were slaves sold to a slave owner by the name PETWAY. I would be grateful for any information anyone may have. JONES, VINCENT/VINCIENT/VINSON - I am searching for a connection between the Vincent/Vincient/Vinson family and the Jones family in Brunswick County in the 1700s. Both families are represented in the Poll Lists of 1748, and the two families share given/Christian names, i.e. William, John, Moses, Isaac, Thomas. My ancestor was Vincent JONES whose sons William and Isaac came to Clay County, Kentucky around 1800 to settle on land grants.
