Welcome
to Buckingham County,
a free access family history and genealogy web site, a part of the
VAGenWeb and USGenWeb Projects. I am the host for
Buckingham County and I am currently becoming acquainted with all of
the truly fascinating history that honors Buckingham
County. I will research and contribute all I can, but
I encourage each one of you to be a participant of this project and
help develop the spirit and history of the families of Buckingham
County. Since Buckingham
is one of the Virginia counties where records were destroyed or
burned, even more dependence is necessary for researchers and
volunteers to submit data for the benefit of family members across
the country and with roots in Buckingham County. If you have any
material you can share, i.e. family documents, images, photos,
cemetery information, source material, birth, marriage, etc.,
please send them to me and I will display it on the Buckingham
County web site quickly.
Cemeteries are always of
concern due to age, deterioration, and vandalism. Many times a
cemetery transcript and/or tombstone photographs are the only link
to the past (especially in a burned county), thus having the ability
to open many doors for many families. As they say, a
picture is worth a thousand words, especially if the picture
pertains to a loved one. I will support any effort the best I
can for volunteers to turn over every rock in Buckingham
County, finding and
documenting every cemetery, large or small, for an everlasting
record. If you have any suggestions, comments, sources, or
just what-have-you ?, please communicate, send me a line.
I will be very responsive to your request and/or needs.
I would also like to
commend the previous host for Buckingham
County, Ms. Carol
Morrison, whose contributions and devotions to Buckingham
County, and to her
ancestors of Buckingham County, was an inspiration to many
researchers. I am indebted to her and and I am sorry her
schedule has precluded her to cut back on some of her areas of
interest. She will certainly be missed, but I will earnestly
continue her efforts and her commitment to the families of Buckingham
County, Virginia.
