History of Caldwell Family - by Louie Mae Caldwell Blake
Biographical Sketch of the Caldwell families of Botetourt, Craig
and Giles counties in the State of Va. compiled from the memories of
G. W. Snodgrass and wife who was a daughter of John Madison Caldwell,
who was a son of Robert Caldwell, who was a son of John Caldwell, who
was a son of John Caldwell the pioneer father of the Caldwells in
these counties.
First John Caldwell and wife Susannah Edmiston came from Pennsylvania
(state) and settled on Johns Creek about the year 1773. Securing his
title to a boundary of land from Wm Thompson and Wm Preston who
procured their title from King George III.
Their family consisted of eight children that we can trace. There
may have been more - and there seems to have been a half brother of
said John Caldwell but we have no [tab?] of his family.
The eight children were as follows: William, John (Temper),
Archibald, Robert, Sallie, Rosa, Jean, Susie, total-8.
1. William (wife Looney)
2. John (wife Pollly Hively)
3. Archibald (wife Millabarger)
4. Robert (wife Mary Magdeline Smith who was great great grand
parents of Dexter Jacob Calds children.)
5. Sallie - wife of Wm Farrier
6. Rosa wife of Joseph Eakin
