Caldwell - Snodgrass

Recorded in Deed Book "C" pages 469 & 70 & 71.

This indenture made this 20th day of December in the year 1881 between
Dexter J. Caldwell and Elizabeth M. Caldwell his wife, Geo. W.
Snodgrass, and Amanda J. Snodgrass his wife (who before her marriage
with Mr. Geo. W. Snodgrass was Caldwell) of the first part, and Byron
C. Caldwell of the second part all of the County of Craig and State of
Virginia, witnesseth, that whereas the said Dexter J. Caldwell and
Geo. W. Snodgrass and Amanda J. Snodgrass his wife (who was Caldwell
and a sister to the other parties to this deed), and Byron C.
Caldwell, parties to this indenture, are siezed in fee simple of, and
have equal shares by inheritance from their father the late John M.
Caldwell decd, in and to three certain tracts or parcels of land
situate lying and being in the County of Craig State of Virginia on
the water of John Creek adjoining the lands of Wm T. Eakin, Joseph
Livesey and others.  Now, therefore, to the end and interest that a
perfect partition may be had and made between them, the said Dexter
J. Caldwell, Geo. W. Snodgrass and Amanda J. Snodgrass, and Byron C.
Caldwell of all and signular the tracts and parcels of land which
decended to them by inheritance from their father John M. Caldwell
did as aforesaid, and that each of them this and each, of their heirs,
or assigns, may from henceforth, severally and separately, have and
enjoy in severally and separately without any impeachment or
disturbance of the other of them, or their heirs or assigns, his, her
and their portion and pact of the said tracts or parcels of land
inherited from their father aforesaid, they the said Dexter J.
Caldwell, Geo. W. Snograss and Amanda J. Snograss, and Byron C.
Caldwell, by their own mutual consent and agreement, leave made
partition and division, and by these presents do, for themselves and
their heirs and assigns, make partition and division of the said
tracts or parcels of land by them inherited as aforesaid, and to that
end and for that purpose the said Dexter J. Caldwell and Elizabeth M.
his wife and Geo. W. Snodgrass and Amanda J. Snodgrass, his wife, and
by these presents convey and release unto the said Byron C. Caldwell
all their right title and interest in and to the following boundary of
land for his part and partition of the said tracts or parcels of land
above mentioned and described, it being known as the "Bishop or Craft
place" and bounded as follows, to wit:

Beginning at a double mulberry in the west bank of Johns' Creek comes
to Amanda J. Snogdgrass' part and with the same N 66 E 222 poles
crossing the creek four times to a hickory corner to the same, and
with N 21 W 74 poles to a white oak and red oak - two pines called
fir - N 42-1/2 W 78 poles to 2 white oaks and 2 pines (dead) N 14 W
40 poles to a gum in a hollow N 37-1/2 W 20 poles to two white oaks
and in pine N 16 E 44 poles to 4 white oaks near the bend of a hollow
N 86 E 128 poles to two pines in a ridge S 28-1/2 E 68 poles to a
hickory sapling S 30 E 66 poles crossing the road to 2 white oaks
comes to Dexter J. Caldwell's part and with N 56 E 51 poles with the
road to a stake by said road, N 74 E 26 poles to the ford of John's
Creek S 60 E 15 poles to 2 pines on a cliff of rocks S 36 E 79 poles
to a white oak and in a ridge leaving said D. J. Caldwell's part,
S 80 W 13-33/4 poles to a double chestnut oak, black oak and white
oak, added by a gully S 28 W 12 poles to the creek and with the
several meanders thereof S 41 W 44 poles S 34-1/2 W 60 poles to a
white oak, S 60-1/2 W 62 poles to 2 white pines S 73 W 40 poles to
a [Lynn?] S 67 W 18 poles to a large spruce pine N 87 W 22 poles to
a chestnut oak and white pine, N 80 W 50 poles to 3 white oaks S 78
W 97 poles to a chesnut oak and pine in the point of a ridges S 38
W 56 poles to a chestnut oak and pine N 84-1/2 W 29 poles to a black
oak and red oak N 28 W 22 poles crossing the creek to the beginning,
containing 265 acres more or less, to have and to hold the said part
and portion of tracts or parcels of land contained in the above metes
and bounds unto him the said Byron C. Caldwell his heirs and assigns
forever, in severally and separately, and divided from the parts and
portions of the said Dexter J. Caldwell and Geo. W. Snodgrass and
Amanda J. Snodgrass his wife their heirs and assigns, with all and
singular the appurtenances thereto belonging, or in any wise
appertaining, to the said part or portion, to and for his own use and
uses, without the [let?], suit, hindrance, interruption, or denial of
the said Dexter J. Caldwell and Elizabeth M. his wife, and Geo. W.
Snodgrass and Amanda J. Snodgrass his wife, or their heirs of
assigns, or of any other persons claiming or to claim, by from or
under them or any of them.

In witness whereof, the said parties have hereunto set their hands
and affixed their seals in the day and year first herein written in
the date hereof
