KINDEL - KINDLE - KENDALL - BROYLES - WEBB - CLARKSON - LOYD: William
KINDLE b.1760 (probably in Culpeper Co VA) d.1852 Decatur Co TN. Wife not
known. He joined the 2nd Rgt VA Line 1776 and was mustered out and marched
back from Savannah GA, after the British sailed home defeated, in 1783.
He was at Brandywine and at "Little York" when Cornwallis surrendered;
National Archives file: S-2705. He moved to Greene Co TN and took up land
before 1800. He had sons John KINDLE/KINDEL b.1782 and George KINDLE b.1790
perhaps in Culpeper Co VA; both married 8 Oct 1807 Greene Co TN cousins
Elizabeth BROYLES and Eve (or Evi/Eva) BROYLES respectively. John raised
family in Hardin Co TN. George raised family in Decatur Co TN. William
moved to Perry Co then Decatur Co TN 1838 to live w/ son George. Seeking
to prove/disprove that William KINDEL b. 1781 VA d.ca1865 Phillips Co AR
was also his son; and seeking to find earlier generations--probably spelled
KENDALL. William KINDEL m.28 Jan 1800 Greene Co TN Elizabeth WEBB b.1783
Greene Co TN d.ca1865 Phillips Co AR. This family moved to Shelby Co KY
1800-1810+/- and then on to Rutherford, Giles, Maury Cos TN; to Monroe,
Yalobusha, Coahoma Cos MS; and Phillips Co AR. Children lived in Wayne
Co TN adjacent to Hardin & Decatur Cos TN where John & George KINDLE
lived (John and some of his children spelled it KINDEL). In Greene Co TN
1 Mar 1800 Susannah WEBB m. Thomas LOYD; John BIRD gave bond at this wedding
and at wedding of Wm KINDEL/Eliz WEBB. In Shelby Co KY 21 May 1804 Mary
WEBB m. John CLARKSON, Wm KINDLE gave bond and Wm WEBB gave permssion for
dau Mary to wed. Working hypothesis is that Wm Webb was father of Mary,
Susannah & Elizabeth. Potentially, Wm KINDEL is first-born son of Wm
KINDLE, and all these people are connected with Culpeper Co VA. Do any
Culpeper Co VA researchers/inquirers recognize any of these names in their
own research? I NEED HELP "CRACKING THIS ROADBLOCK"; no clue to small for
me to follow up on. I would surely appreciate your help, and I am glad
to share my info w/ you.

I am trying to identify Benjamin Bragg found in the Culpeper Co Deed
Books as "Benjamin Bragg...of Essex Co." from 1770-1784. A Benjamin Bragg
married Polly Tewntyman in 1785; the marriage bond is recorded in both
Culpeper and Orange Co. William Bragg inventory is mentioned in Culp Will
Book B, p 198. He is also mentioned as a witness in Culpeper Co Deeds in
1774 between John Tackett and Jonathan Bishop in St. Mark's parish; also
in a 1774 bond between Edward Bush and William Bragg. I would appreciate
any info helping me to identify Benjamin Bragg and William Bragg.Thanks-
Jeanne

I've discovered a family member that lived and died in Culpeper County,
the SS Record says, Raccoon Ford and is that a town? The name is Carl Thaillie.
Born in Ijzendijke, Netherlands 21 Sep 1881 and died Dec 1975 in Culpeper
County. His birth record and the family name is "Taillie" and Carl's birth
name is Willem Karl Taillie but he must of changed the spelling to Carl
Thaillie.Carl was married to a Margaret Thaillie also living in Culpeper
County. She was born 23 Oct 1890 and died Aug. 1975. The zip on the SS
death notice is 22701.What is the best way to get death records from this
family, not a direct decendant but a distant cousin to my husband. Will
look forward to hearing from you.

s Hi, my name is John Phillips and I'm working on my mother's family

Matt Race Hello,I

Hofmann I am searching for information on Washburns (Washborne,
Washbourne, etc.) in Accomac Co. during the 1600s and early 1700s. So far,
I have uncovered the following through the Univ. of VA archives: Heriot
Washborne was exporting goods from the Colonies in 1639. " Jos" Washbourne
was exporting goods in 1672. John Washbourne was given a land patent on
land in Accomack Co. in 1679. A man by the same name was also obtained
a patent in Northhampton Co. in 1679, and yet another in 1696. "Jno" Washbourn
was a clerk in the courts in Accomack Co. in 1687, certifying the will
of one Simon Keeth. John Washbourne was the surveyor on Cape Charles in
1689, and it was noted that he had left the service by 1706. In 1731, a
John Washburn was given a land patent in Spotsylvania County. I would like
to find as much information as possible to understand the relationships
between these people, and to find traces of as many Washburns as possible
in VA during these years. My target is to find the father of a John Washburn,
who died in Culpeper Co. in 1779. He is the supposed father of a Benjamin
Washburn who was born in Culpeper Co. and died in Shelby Co., KY, and who
is my ancestor. A Benjamin Washburn was given a land grant in Washington
Co. in 1798. Thanks for any insight you can give.

Mike I'm working
on a Reynolds line that starts with Patrick Reynolds, born about 1760,
in County Meath, Ireland. By the year 1800, Patrick had fathered ten sons:
William, born 1786, Patrick, born 1788, Thomas, born 1789, John born 1791,
Roderick, born 1793, Cornelius born 1795, Redmond, born 1796, Jarleth,
born 1798, Dennis, born 1799, and Philip born 1800. His first two wives
died. Around 1800, he and his sons relocated to Culpeper, Virginia, where
they stayed for a relatively short time. He married for a 3rd time, possibly
in Culpeper. An old family document claims that they moved "down east"
without any further explanation. Since some of the first names were unqiue
I hoped to pick up something on an old census for Virginia or the surrounding
states without success. I don't know where they moved to. Really would
appreciate any suggestions. Thanks,

any information or rescources I may use to find out more about him I would
certainly appreciate it.I myself live in Marshall, Missouri but was born
in Fairfax County, Virginia at Fort Belvoir!I appreciate your help with
my search and look forward to your reply.Sincerely,

I was wondering if you could find any info in your "Culpeper Co,
18th Century Perspective" or "Historic Culpeper" on a couple of my ancestors.
The first is Henry FORD (1751-1855)He apparently lived most of his life
in Culpeper Co. (There is a family tradition that the name was changed
somewhere along the way and may have been SANFORD at one time.) He had
a son, Shelton FORD (b.1805 in Culpeper) who married Delilah SHACKELFORD
(or SHACKLEFORD (b. 1824 in Culpeper) Shelton had 11 kids and my g-g-grandfather
was appearantly the second born. His name was:Jackson FORD (1834-1924).I
doubt that Delilah was Jackson's mother as she was only 10 years old when
he was born. Shelton must have had a wife before Delilah.I truly appreciate
any info that you might find in your reference books. Thank you so much,
Cordelia (Dee) Sardoch

I am researching the GIBSON family, a large Quaker family that lived in
the Culpeper, Loudoun, Fauquier, Clarke, and Frederick counties area. I
am especially looking for the parents of three sisters: Rosetta GIBSON
who married Alfred JONES; Rosella GIBSON who married Manley Washington
RUSK; Rosanna GIBSON who married John STATES. Their father had died by
1830, as Rosella's guardian was listed as her brother-in-law, Alfred JONES
at her marriage to Manley RUSK in 1830. It is possible that they are related
to the family of Alpheus GIBSON, son of Moses GIBSON and Betsy Withers
WINN. Each of these sisters had daughters named Alcinda, the same name
as Alpheus GIBSON'S sister. I would also like to know why each of their
names started with "Rose". Any info on this family would be appreciated.
Linzum I am
looking for information on how to locate a list of the men that were killed
from Culpeper and Orange County in the battle of Guilford Courthouse in
1781. There was a John Thornton whose will was probated in October of 1781
stating that John Thornton has died and left four minor children. This
same John Thornton had several relatives, cousins, that were killed at
the battle of Guilford Courthouse and I have been searching for some type

I am looking for information on my g-g-g-grandfather Humphrey Gaines who
married Elizabeth Warren in 1789. I am not sure if the family was still
in Culpeper Co. at the time or not. His father Henry ba1731 who married
Mariah Woods Stepp lived in Culpeper Co., but his son William Jorden (
jourdan ) was born in Rabun Co. Ga. in 1803. I don't have any info on siblings
for Humphrey, or if he had a middle name. I do think that he may have had
a brother William b1757 that fought in the Revolutionary War, but I am
just guessing at that. If you know of or can find any information, I would
greatly appreciate it. Thanks a lot.

I am looking for individuals who are working on George Family historys

Marks Parish in Culpeper Co.(then Orange Co.) in the 1730's and 1740's.
His son Reuben is my ancestor. Have some of Reuben's brothers, Travis,
Parnach and Jesse. They live and moved amoung the remaining four counties
mentioned above along with cousins and other relatives.

In my research I have recently discovered that the family I am researching
initially came to Culpepper Co., VA before moving on the Caroline Co.,
VA. I know that they were in Caroline Co. by 1787. Prior to that time they
were in Culpepper, but for how long I do not know. Here is what I do know:
William Holloway came to Culpepper Co., VA with his wife (whose name I
do not know), a son John, a son George, a daughter Clarissa and her husband
Samuel Hill. The entire family moved on the Caroline Co. by 1787. Do you
have any records for this family in Culpepper prior to 1787? Thanks in
advance.

We are currently researching my husband's family and our question concerns
Michael Coons, born in Virginia around 1735. Is it possible that his father
is Joseph Coones, who came to Culpepper in 1714 from Germany to mine coal?
We do know that Michael had a land survey in Dumore (Shenandoah County)
Co. in July 1774. Also, is it possible that Michael's brother was the Baptist
Minister John Koontz who also lived in Shenandoah County. Michael's wife's
name was Rebecca, but we don't have a surname. They had 10 children, 9
of whom were born in VA. They apparently moved to Tennesse in 1783. Any
help you can give us would be appreciated.

I am researching the family of Michael Thomas in Culpeper, VA. Michael
was born about 1738 in Culpeper, VA and died Nov. 13, 1817 in Rockingham
County, NC. His wife was Barbara Harensparger and they were married about
1770/71. They had ten children: John, Adam, Samuel, James, Mary(Polly),
Joanna, Anna, Susannah, Catherine, and Elizabeth(Betsy). Michael and Barbara
eventually moved from Culpeper to Rockingham Co, NC but I am not sure when.
I would like to find out more information on Michael such as his birth
and marriage records. I also found one document that stated a Christopher
Thomas as his father. I would like to find out if that information is true
and if there is any records of who his mother might have been. This is
where I have hit a brick wall. Any information or advise would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks, Jill

BLACKWELL born about 1725 is the ancestor of a large BLACKWELL family who
migrated about 1770 to Carswell County, North Carolina, then South Carolina,
then Franklin County, Georgia, where the children dispersed to Tennessee,
Arkansas, Louisiana and other areas. John BLACKWELL died 1818 in Franklin
County, Georgia. The name(s) of his wife or wives is not known. It appears
that this BLACKWELL family left Culpeper County to find an area were they
could parctice a fundimental religion without problems. The family has
a history of establishing Baptist churches. At least one son served in
the Revolution (South Carolina) and others may have also. My ancestor is
William BLACKWELL born 1745 in Culpeper who married Lucy ( ) and had at

Dear researcher, I know that the Slaughter Family of Culpeper Co.
VA has been researched to death, but a copy of a Journal written shortly
after the Civil War has recently come to light that says that my ancestor
John Slaughter b 1735 New Kent Co. VA m Frances Brothers at St Peters Parish,
New Kent , moved to Cumberland Co. VA then died 1798 in Greene Co. GA,
is the son of William Slaughter ( who raised a large family, of which he
only knew of John) and the grandson of Robert Slaughter, who came from
the Atlantic Coast to Culpeper Co.( formerly Orange Co.) with his brothers
Thomas and Francis. One brother went on to Kentucky, but the branch from
which we descend remained in VA until after the Rev. War. Now, my ancestry
search had always stopped with John because he could not be connected beyond
that, so I believe this is new information or at least not available in
the 1980's. I do not know where to go with it. Can you tell me if anybody
can help me with this or point me in a direction? Thank you. bilgro@mail.teclink.net
