In the name of God amen. I Richard Pemberton
of Cumberland County being sick & weak but of sound & disposing
sence & memory do make & ordain this my last will & testament
in manner following hereby revoking all former & other
wills by me at any time heretofore made.
First I desire that all my debts be paid
& discharged by my executors
hereafter named.
Item my will & desire is that my beloved
wife Frances hold and enjoy the
plantation & tract of land whereon I
now live during her natural life time
with full power to cut clear & work the
same or otherwise make use thereof
as she in her discretion shall think fitt
for the better support education &
maintainance of my children and after her
death my will & desire is that the
said plantation and tract of land may be
sold & the money arising therefrom
may be equally devided amongst all of my
children William, Martha, James,
Richard, George, Mary, & Magdalane or
their representatives to them & to
their heirs forever.
Item my will & desire is that the remainder
of my estate of all kind soever
it may consist of and be such as hogs, horses,
cattle, sheep, & houshold
goods & of all other kind whatsoever
may be appraised & devided into eight
equal parts one of which parts for my wife
and one part for
each of my children to have & possess
as they shall arrive to the age of
twenty one years or being married to them
& to their heirs forever.
Lastly I do appoint my wife my friends James
Briant & James Briant jun'r &
William Street executors of this my will
In witness whereof I have set my
hand and affixed my seal to this will written
in part of two pages this

At court held for Cumberland county the 24th
July 1769. This last will and
testament of Richard Pemberton deceased was
proved by the witnesses thereto
and ordered to be recorded and on the motion
of Frances Pemberton the
executrix therein named who made oath according
to law certificate was
granted her for obtaining a probat thereof
in due from giving security
whereupon she together with William Street
and Samuel Flournoy his securitys
entered into bond according to law liberty
being reserved to the executors
to join in probat.

list here as wife.
In 1753 Richard Pembleton bought 100 acres
of land, between the two Manikin
Creeks, from Daniel Perrow.(Deed Book 2 page
74) This land adjoined Thomas
Bradley, and was Witnessed by James Bryant
Jr. who was now an executor.
