SPOTTSWOOD - SHELDON - Peter Spottswood is said to have been born 1813 in Elizabeth City. No doubt records perished in one of the area's fires. He's said to have married Mary E. Sheldon (b. 1815). Their children included my great-grandfather, Samuel Watts Spottswood, born 1859 in Old Point Comfort, Va., and living in Boston by 1890. I am desperate for confirmation of Peter's existence and lineage. Also wish to know what his connection is, if any, to Gov. Alexander Spottswood and Confederate Navy Surgeon General George Augustine Washington Spottswood. Thanks so much for any help.
