My name is Sue Wright, the coordinator for Essex County, Virginia of the USGenWeb Project. Basically, my job is to maintain the page and to post queries and surname register entries. Please contact me with your suggestions for the page's contents, additional Essex County links, or to report broken links.
Interest in the USGenWeb project and Essex County has been tremendous and I have been contacted by a number of people who are just beginning their family research and are also interested in research advice. I hope that the expanded Other Genealogical Sources section, which includes resources for Beginners and Skill-Building, will provide guidance in these areas.

In March and April, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Kentucky Comprehensive Genealogy Database Project. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in Kentucky, where collected databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one county, they could be located in the index.
In June, as the Kentucky Project was coming to completion, it was decided to create this page for all states, establishing the USGenWeb. Volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of county pages for a state page. If the state in which you are interested does not have a page and you wish to be responsible for it, please contact the USGenWeb Coordinator. If you would like to contribute your data or create a county page within a given state, please contact the person responsible for maintaining your state page.
If you would like to volunteer to sponsor a county, or volunteer in any way to help with the VAGenWeb Project, contact Freddie Spradlin, VAGenWeb State Coordinator.
