COMBS - BUTLER - JEETERS --- On Aug. 8, 1734, in Caroline Co, VA, Mason COMBS deeded land to Grace BUTLER (Caroline OB 1732-1740:154), probably 200 A that he inherited from his father, John COMBS, d Richmond 1717, said land being on Punens End in then-Essex County. In 1737 one William JEETERS filed a lien/attachment against Mason COMBS in Caroline County (Caroline OB, pp 423,442), probably against the same 200 A on Punen's End. Mason COMBS, b ca 1714, was the grandson of Archdale and Elizabeth BUTLER (widow of William UNDERWOOD) Combs of Richmond and Old Rappa. Who was Grace BUTLER? Underwood) Combs, signed will naming co-execs, wife Hannah _____ and John ANDERSON (Richmond WB3:300) In 1721, John ANDERSON signed will in which he stated he owed monies to Mason COMBS (named in will of his father, John COMBS), and naming as executor, his 'brother-in-law,' William BROWN (King George WBA-1:6-7). In 1832, Mason COMBS sued a William BROWN in Westmoreland Chancery Court for his share of estate of his father, John COMBS of Richland (Combs Genealogy, Josiah H. COMBS). BERRY --- Benjamin BERRY, b. 2/21/1755 (or 1756) reportedly in Virginia. Some records existing for Piscataway Parish (St John's Church) indicates Benjamin BERRY b 2/21/1756 from Piscataway Parish, in Prince Georges Co, MD (which is probably straight across the Potomac). Does anybody have info on whether it's the same parish? Is it probable that VA family records may have been kept in the Maryland church? But it's the POTOMAC! Probably old Rappahannock/Essex county area... Thanks for any info or pointers!

He probably brought his two sons, Samuel, Jr. and John to Virginia from England. Samuel Sr. married a second time to Sarah Catlett, daughter of Col. John and Elizabeth (Underwood) Catlett. Samuel and Sarah had two daughter, Sarah and Anne. Samuels, Sr.'s will mentions Samuel, Jr., but no mention of his son, John. What happened to John Sallis? Did he die young or move away? Was this Capt. John Harrison a relative of the first Henry Harrison in Isle of Wight and Surry/Essex Counties? Families were possibly in Caroline & King & Queen Co., VA by the 1730's. Other families who had dealings/and or related were the BOUGHAN/BOHANNON/BOUGHANNON, TRICE, HERNDON, BOOTH/E, and MOORE families. These families were in Orange Co., NC by as early as 1754.

NICHOLS --- Looking for NATHAN NICHOLS b. 1748 "eastern shores of Va." PARENTS, siblings. Nathan owned land in the Frederick Co. area and surrounding counties. His father, name not known, was a Baptist minister, and his mother died when Nathan was very young. His father remarried and Nathan left, his family. He traveled west and settled in Winchester, where he married Hannah HODGSON in 1784. Sometime in 1795, he went to OHIO. He died in 1822. Believe he was in the Dunmore's War, with possibility of his brother. His eldest son, Philip was in War of 1812.

Nathan Nichols was a shoemaker in the earlier part of his life. There are two apprentices of Va. (1623-1800 - H. B. Gill) listed for master John Nichols/shoemaker in Lancaster County, eastern shores of Va. pp 301-323 (Lancaster Co Orders 7). Am hoping that Lancaster County or surrounding counties...King and Queen, Essex, Middlesex...could be the County that will hold the key to finding Nathan Nichols' family.

BOUGHAN - WARD --- Gabriel BOUGHAN, born 1777 (son of Major BOUGHAN and Lucy MUNDAY of Essex County) married Milly WARD and had children Caston, Thomas and Elizabeth. By the time Gabriel died in 1835 Milly had also died. Seeking any information on Milly WARD and her family. I haven't found many WARDs in Essex, so I assume she may have been from King & Queen, Caroline, Middlesex or another nearby county. Thank you.

Richard dies shortly and Joseph is his excutor too. These men could be either sons or brothers. James comes to America from Blackley, Manchester, England in 1777. and marries Mary ADAMS in 1778. The Reynolds/Rennolds family lived in Caroline Co. during 1770's & 80's. Thomas (school master) lived part time in Bot. w/ son John. Ann moved to Madison by eary 1890's. (Several of Simon Miller's other dau's. also lived in Madison Co.

EVANS - HENLEY - McGUFFEE - McGUIRE - PAGETT --- Susannah Pagett shows up in court records of Essex Co., Va. when her "will" was dated on 11 July 1698, Essex Co., Va. She was married apparently three times...(1) Evans, (2) McGuire, (3) John McGuffee. Susannah apparently had children: John, Thomas, Benjamin and Elizabeth Evans; Phillip McGuire; and Susannah, Sarah, John and Ephraim McGuffee.

I would love to hear from anyone researching this Pagett line with information on Susannah and any of the marriages and or children listed above. I descend from Susannah and John McGuffee through their son John McGuffee who married Jane Henley. Thanks so much.
