ELDER F. J. STONE.

Elder F. J. Stone was born December 2, 1835; died March 10, 1904. He joined the Primitive Baptist church at Reed Creek, Henry county, Va., While quite a young' man, and removed his membership to Matrimony, N. C., where he was ordained to the worl, of the gospel inĚ1880, by Elders R W. Hill, A. S. Moore, and others.

He engaged in the mercantile business soon after the Civil War, remained in it for a number of years, after which he retired from business and devoted his entire time to the work of the ministry, until he was contined to his bed by sickness. Be was an earnest, faithful preacher, contending earnestly for the faith once delivered to the saints. His house was always open, and a home for Primitive Baptists. He was twice married, first to a Miss Dalton, by whom were born to him five children. The second marriage was to Miss Susan Roberts, and by whom he had one son. All the children preceded him to the grave, except the two youngest.

He leaves a widow and two children, with many relatives to mourn his loss.

He was a faithful soldier in the war, and a kind and hospitable gentleman. His funeral was attel1ded by Elder A. L. Moore at the family burial ground near Stonevil1e, N. C, where a large concourse of people bad gathered to pay their last tribute of respect to his memory. We believe he is now at rest with his Savior.
