She was first married to Edwin Devary and with him had three children: Iris, Omer Edwin (my father) and Virginia. In her later life, she married and died as Mrs. James K. LINE. MILLS, JARRETT - Robert Wiley, was born ca 1824 in Franklin County, VA, son of William and Drucilla Kemp MILLS. He married 1843 in Henry County, Mary JARRETT, and in the 1850 Census of Floyd County, the family was listed on Beaverdam Creek. Robert enlisted in March 1862, in the 24th VA, fought in the Battle of Williamsburg, early May 1862, and was kia 31 May 1862 in the Battle of Seven Pines fought near Richmond. After his death, his wife Mary took the 4 youngest children and departed VA for IL to live with her brother, William JARRETT. Following the war, Robert and Mary's oldest son, William Allen MILLS, also joined the family in IL, married Sarah Angeline Shelton in 1869, and reared a family of 12. Their 11th child was my Grandfather, Miles Eugene MILLS. If you surf to - http://www.rootsweb.com/~ileffing/ - and scroll down to Effingham County Roots - you will find a biography of Miles E. MILLS, Grandson of Robert Wiley MILLS and "cousin" to many MILLSes in VA today. Edward E. Mills, 67 Brookside Road, P.O. Box 1447, Westford, MA 01886.

MILLS, LAWRENCE - Looking for a lost MILLS (who isn't looking for somebody lost?) ... Sally Mills, 6th child of William and Drucilla (Kemp) MILLS was born in Franklin County, VA, ca 1829 and listed at age 21 in 1850 Floyd County Census. She had a younger sister, Milly MILLS who married John B. LAWRENCE, 1854 in Floyd County, VA. Her parents were living in Montgomery County in 1860 and she is not listed. I assume she is either married or deceased by 1860; my research of marriage records in Franklin, Floyd, and Montgomery was unsuccessful. There could have been a name switch from first to middle or nickname, etc... the only name I have is from the 1850 Census. Are there any connections of Sally MILLS to your family research between 1850-1860? Seeking any information on these families, marriages, and descendants in subsequent generations. Edward E. Mills, P.O. Box 1447, Westford, MA 01886

MILLS, SMITH, GEARHART, WIMMER - Anderson MILLS, b. 1816, Franklin County, VA, married 1st 1844, Floyd County, VA, Hannah SMITH, married 2nd Sarah GEARHART, he d. 1888 Floyd County, VA, buried there in a long ago abandoned small family cemetery; 8 children from these two marriages, viz, Ann Elizabeth, Mary E., John Taylor, Adeline, Nancy Frances, Isaac Thomas, Martha Jane, and Uwalker. Anderson had an older brother, Larkin P. Mills, b. c 1814, Franklin County, VA, married 1834, Floyd County, VA, Hannah WIMMER, he died before 1870; 8 children, viz, Nancy P., Tazwell, Emiline, Mary M., Elvira, James Taylor, Ballard Preston, and Lucy C. Both Anderson and Larkin are noted in numerous Franklin and Floyd County documents during their lives. Family stories from known current living descendants indicate their ancestry was from Ireland. In several years of mid-1800's Floyd County Tax Records, they were with my GtGtGt Grandfather William MILLS when they paid their taxes. I believe they may have been connected to my MILLS Family line, but cannot prove that belief. Has anyone identified the parents of Larkin and Anderson, or know who they were from other sources? My working assumptions that both these brothers and my family line are tied to the Scots- Irish MILLSes of mid-to-late 1700's Augusta and Botetourt Counties. Seeking any information on these families, children, and descendants in subsequent generations. Edward E. Mills, P.O. Box 1447, Westford, MA 01886

REED - I am looking for any and all information on the ancestors and descendants of an Andrew REED (bc 1750, near Philadelphia, PA; dc 1835, Floyd Co., VA). This Andrew apparently came down through the Valley of Virginia as a young man and initially settled in then-Bedford County (present-day Franklin Co.), VA. While there, he apparently enlisted in the military circa 1776, served his allotted tour of duty and then, after the Revolutionary war, moved to Montgomery (present-day Floyd) County where he settled along Beaver Creek and a George W. REED, Sr., the so-called REED family "patriarch" of Floyd county. If anyone would have any credible information concerning his ancestors or descendants, I would really appreciate it. Surely someone still residing in the Floyd Co. area is related to him as he supposedly had a lot of descendants. Thanks very much.
