KEISLER, KESLAR, KESLER -
Looking for information on a Rev. War Soldier Wm. Henry Kesler a.k.a. Henry Keisler. Just found earlier this morning other KESLAR/ KESLERs from Franklin Co VA and this is the area from which my Henry Keisler would have been a soldier. Henry Kesler was a messenger for Colonel William Preston, the famous head of all VA Rev. Militia in the area of Augusta, Montgomery, Franklin and Botetourt counties. I have a copy of a message he carried during the war. Does anyone know the origin of this Henry or Wm. Henry Kesler [spell it anyway except with 2 esses] who was born about 1750 +/- about 10 years in this area? Will share info on his descendants but have nothing on his Ancestors, please help.

FINNEY, SLOAN, SLONE, STEVENSON -
My brother and sister have done a good bit of genealogical research thru the years and know the names and dates of our 8 great grandparents, 10 of our 16 great great grandparents and 6 of our 32 great great great parents. (It's confusing, as sometimes the names are spelled incorrectly or there is slightly conflicting data). Right now we are looking for the name(s) of the parents of John Riley Finney and want to know if his father or grandfather fought in the Revolutionary War. John Riley Finney was born about 1765 or 1770 in Va. (probably Botetourt county). He married Ellender Sloan/ Slone Mar 28, 1793 in Franklin Co, Va. Sept 10, 1794 he was appointed surveyor of the highway, and Dec 8, 1795 he was appointed constable. (A distant relative found these last two facts in the Annals of SW Va.) He enlisted in the military in Botetourt Co to fight in the War of 1812. After the war he migrated from Botetourt Co to Tn. around 1815 and died in Lawerence Co. in Nov of that year. We believe his father (who may have been named Timothy) or his grandfather fought in the Rev War. It was passed down in the family by word of mouth that our first Finney ancestor in this country was a British sea captain who came to Va. about 1740 and owned a tobacco farm there (not far from Natural Bridge on the upper stretches of the James River). We would like to find out as much as possible about these ancestors (names, dates of births, marriages and death). Also we would like any inf on his wife Ellender Sloan, who was born about 1770 in Va. and died in 1880 in Lawerence Co., Tn. (That would be 110- could that be true?). Her father was William Alexander Sloan and her mother was Jane Stevenson. Any info of that side of the family would also be appreciated. I would like to find documented data to be able to join the DAR. Evidently Ellender Sloan Finney (referred to by my father's grandfather as "Pretty Grandma") was quite a brave woman, as about 1815 or so (as a widow) rode horseback alone from south Tn back to Va. to sell the family farm and return to Tn. with the money in her saddlebags. She evaded indians and highway robbers during her trip, raised her family alone and lived to be an old woman. Thank you so much for any info on these ancestors you can find for me or any direction you can provide to further our research.
