CLACK, CLANTON, PRESLEY, ROWLAND, THORNTON -
My ancestors settled in the place that subsequently was named Franklin county. Looking for the ancestors of
my ancestor Mary Polly THORNTON, wife of William Clanton of Henry Co. Mary Polly's father was
Rowland Thornton, son of Presley (Peter Presley) Thornton of Pittsylvania County (1736-1812).
I cannot find Presley's parents. Some say it was a Luke Thornton, others say it was a William
Thornton. I suspect there is some connection with the line of William Thornton The
Immigrant, who came to Virginia from Yorkshire in 1627 -- because that William's wife was a
Rowland and William's grandson Anthony married Winifred Presley, daughter of Peter
Presley. The naming patterns are just too similar for there not to be a connection. Some think Peter
Presley is related to Jane Clack, a descendant of William The Immigrant, but her son Peter
Presley was born way after my Presley. Any information would be appreciated.
