I'm looking for information about Emerline HIETH b. 1824 in Union Hall, Franklin County, VA married to Philip L. FORBES, 10-1-1842 in Franklin County. They had three children: Wiley Taswell, Marion, and George Washington. She is also listed in the 1860 census as Emerline FORBES, age 36; with children: William B., age 10; W.T., age 8; and Geo W., age 3. She was the third wife of Cluffee Martin BROOKS, although family lore has it that they never got married, having lost two previous wives he was superstitious. She and Cluffee Martin BROOKS had another son, Charles Franklin BROOKS, born July 27, 1862, who is my great grand father. If you have any information about Emerline, please Email. Thanks in advance,

My ancestors settled in the place that subsequently was named Franklin county. Looking for the ancestors of my ancestor Mary Polly THORNTON, wife of William Clanton of Henry Co. Mary Polly's father was Rowland Thornton, son of Presley (Peter Presley) Thornton of Pittsylvania County (1736-1812). I cannot find Presley's parents. Some say it was a Luke Thornton, others say it was a William Thornton. I suspect there is some connection with the line of William Thornton The Immigrant, who came to Virginia from Yorkshire in 1627 -- because that William's wife was a Rowland and William's grandson Anthony married Winifred Presley, daughter of Peter Presley. The naming patterns are just too similar for there not to be a connection. Some think Peter Presley is related to Jane Clack, a descendant of William The Immigrant, but her son Peter Presley was born way after my Presley. Any information would be appreciated.
