My great-grandparents, Lewis M. Moore & Lucy E. Doss Moore were married at the home of Joe Mullins in Franklin Co., VA, on December 21, 1881. I found people whom I believe to be the parents of Lewis & Lucy, (& possibly Joe, too), on page 11 of your county's 1850 census. My theory is that Joe Mullins was a neighbor of Lucy's, (according to the farm & house #'s on the census report). Further, Joe Mullins was the son or grandson of a Booker Mullins, who just happened to live down the road from and have another son living next door to Lewis. I believe that my grandparents met because of the Mullins family. My query is, if possible, to get the DOB's of Lewis & Lucy, and any info on their parents and/or siblings, (or other relations). Any help & any advice on further research would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am seeking confirmation (in the form of written documents) that Matthew Patton (born 1730 in Ireland, d 1803 in Winchester, KY) is the father of Robert Patton, Sr.(born 1748? d 1813 in Lincoln, TN). Matthew Patton is the son of Capt. John Patton (John is the brother of Col. James Patton, who brought many settlers to Augusta Co., VA, and the surrounding area) and Mary Sarah Rogers. Matthew apparently traveled to America from Ireland with his father. Matthew married Hester (Ester) Dyer, the daughter of Roger Dyer and Hannah ___, in 1749 in Franklin, Pendleton Co. (?). Matthew and Hester had 9-11 children and may have lived in 3 different states (VA., NC and KY). Matthew's and Hester's children included William, David, Robert, John, Roger, John, Matthew, Benjamin (?), Sarah (Sally?), Mary Ann, James and Hester. Matthew Patton's wife, Hester Dyer Patton, is reported to have died in Franklin Co., VA. Matthew's aunt, Margaret (Peggy) Patton (dau of Col. James Patton) died 3-8-1827 in Franklin County., VA. She was married first to Col. John Buchanan (they had 7 children) and, after his death, to William Anderson (they had 2 children). I would appreciate any information or lead which can help me establish that Matthew is (or is not) Robert's father.

Trying to locate information on Benjamin Brooks, Said to have been a Revolutionary War Soldier. He would have been born in about 1753. His son was William Brooks who married Mary Sellers on or around 14 Nov 1798 in Franklin Co., VA according to a bond paid there that date to obtain a license. It is believed he went to Kentucky for a time but moved back to Franklin Co., VA. Also looking for the mother of Mary Sellars. Her father was named Andrew Sellers also said to have been a Revolutionary war soldier. It is written, in a book about Pioneers Families of Missouri, that Andrew bought his wife and she made a very good one but it does not give her name. Andrew Brooks was born 15 Aug 1755 and died 24 May 1839.

I am researching the Brooks family of Franklin Co. Virginia and have found all the above names to be tied to my family as ancestors. I am a descendant of Clifford Martin Brooks born 1805. He had been married twice before to a Mattox and to a Dudley. Emmeline Hiatt Forbes is listed as his wife on marriage documents recorded in Franklin Co. VA. She is my 2nd great grandmother. Cluff, as he was called, was a son of William Brooks and Mary Sellers. They married in Franklin Co., VA their marriage record is the oldest recorded document at the Courthouse in Rocky Mount, VA. William Brooks and William Scott were posting a bond of $150, and it mentions the intended marriage. William was said to be the son of a Benjamin Brooks a revolutionary war soldier and Mary also was the daughter of a revolutionary war soldier named Andrew Sellers, who reportedly bought his wife for the price of her passage on a ship to America. Anyone who can share information on this line please contact me. There is a story I am unraveling from Census records concerning Emmeline and Cluff Brooks. She is in his home from 1860 until after his death. Her first husband Phillip Forbes list himself as a widower and yet she is still alive. Rumor has it that her family was Quaker. Hiett or Hiatt. BROOKS/ MATTHEWS are the direct lines I am a decendant of, later ancestors through marriage are SELLERS; HIATT, LAW, KESSLER, HOUSEMAN; GILBERT, WEBSTER, DAVIS, BRIZENDINE, PARKER, POWELL, DUPREE, & SMITH. These are all names in the research I am doing in Franklin Co, VA. If there may be a connection onany of these lines with your ancestors please email me
