Does anyone know of any early Baptist Church records for Franklin Co and where I can find them? I'm looking
for information prior to 1800, probably ca 1750. Thank you.

LAVINDER, STEGALL -
Greetings, I have begun to pursue concrete evidence of a story concerning an ancestor on my spouses maternal
line. The story was told to me in October of 1997 by a distant cousin of my spouse. The relation is my
spouses gggrandfather, and it is the cousins grandfather who told the story. The story goes briefly as
follows: The ancestor's name was George William LAVINDER, born in 1820 to William and Rachel
LAVINDER. George was married to Sarah "Sallie" STEGALL on 1-1851. They had 8
children by 1869. George does not show as head of household on the Franklin Co. Census Record in 1870 of the
Rocky Mt. Township, Franklin Co., Va., so I am assuming the incident happened from the last childs birth in
1869 to 1870. During this time George LAVINDER had attended some type of political rally in Rocky
Mount. He was on crutches(?). An argument started between several men, George had his crutches knocked out
from under him and was beaten to death. The end. I have searched the Commonwealth Court Order Books at the
Franklin Co. Courthouse and found 3 or 4 murder cases, but they don't state who the victims are or where the
murder occured. I would like to know what Funeral Homes were existing in 1870 and where the records are
today. I also need to know what Newspapers were in existance and where to find that info.Any help or
direction on this story would be greatly appreciated. It's apparent I have no death or burial info on George
William LAVINDER. Sincerely,
