BERGMAN, LOWE, NAPIER, OAKES -
James F. LOWE married Sarah Zeigler NAPIER in Franklin Co. VA Dec. 4, 1794 (although that date may not be accurate.) They moved to Rockingham County, NC, and finally to Stokes Co. NC, where they died around 1830/1840. Their children were Valentine, Tarlton, Mary, John M. (md. Elizabeth Bergman), Ruth, Richard, Garrett, Jane (md Alexander Oakes), and Gilbert "Bird" (md Betsy Napier). "Bird" is the only one of these children I have been able to trace. Does anyone know anything about the other children, particularly the sons? They seem to have vanished from North Carolina! Did they, perhaps, return to Virginia? Also, I am seeking information about James LOWE's parents and/or family. Thanks for any help! Ruth Bloom

MARTIN, MCGEE, YOCUM -
There was a James MARTIN that wed a Mary McGEE 22 August 1805 in Franklin County, VA with surety Hugh MARTIN. Also, John MARTIN wed Jane McGEE 1808 in Wayne County, KY with surety James MARTIN. So many people with the same name is resulting in many questions. For instance, I have not found definitely the name YOCUM regarding children of James Martin of Warren County, TN. Could James Martin have been married more than once? Is it the same James Martin? I corresponded with one man who said the James Martin that wed the Yocum was in MS and then Texas but his supporting evidence was that they were with Yocums in TX. He may be right!!! Which means I have been TOTALLY wrong! ANY HELP ON THIS???

HELMS, TURNER -
I am looking for the grave site of my great great grandfather, Thomas H. Helms. I have personally visited Franklin, spent time in the library, walked through four family cemeteries - no luck. This is what I know of him: He is the son of William and Barbra Helm. He married Louisa Sinai Turner (daughter of Obadiah) 6 March 1847 in Patrick County. The 1860 Franklin County census lists five children of Sinai (she never used her first name) and Thomas H. Helms. They were Mary, age 12; Barbara F, age 10; John W., age 8; Thomas O., age 6 and George L., age 3. Thomas enlisted in the CSA 15 June, 1861 at Young's Store in Franklin County. He was in the 57th Regt., Co. B. Pension records indicate that Sinai submitted an application in Franklin County because Thomas H. Helms died while home on furlough 2 July 1864 in Franklin County. Cause of death was typhoid fever. She was awarded $30 per year and she was still in Franklin County when she applied during 1888. Thomas is not on any cemetery list that I saw. Could be if I can find where in Franklin County they lived during July, 1864, I can find his grave, meaning he might be buried on the property. Do you have access to land records? Thank you.
