Franklin County Pride

I was born in Franklin County in the back of a pick-up truck
When momma went for daddy through the fields and she got stuck
I'm a farmer like my daddy making whiskey on the side
a tradition in our family like our Franklin County Pride

Pick-up truck rolling mag wheels and shiny chrome
waving at my neighbors in my Franklin County home
I don't know where I'm going what's on the other side
Only know I'm going with my Franklin County Pride.

I've lived with federal agents breathing down my lucky neck
one night they almost killed me in a whiskey running wreck.
They say that I'm an outlaw. . .in the courthouse they have tried
to take away my freedom and my Franklin County Pride.

The fields are hot and dusty and working makes me dry
but I'll be walking through them until the day I die
I like to sing about it. . .the way I feel inside
A tradition in our family like our Franklin County Pride.

FRANKLIN COUNTY GENEALOGY SOCIETY

July 18, 2001
On Wednesday, July 18, members of Hills of Home met at the Franklin County
Library in the Meeting Room. We had a great turnout, including many friends
we had not seen for a long time and new friends we had never met.

Beverly Merritt reported on the status of our group. On July 12 she had
addressed the Franklin County Historical Society Board of Directors as a
courtesy call, notifying them that the genealogy group was re-forming and
that it would be working on a new genealogy library for Franklin County.
This library will be separate to itself, operated by a foundation soon to
be in place. She did ask that the two groups work together, but as
separate entities. They were invited to return the genealogical material
to the new group but there has been no response to that request.

The genealogy group has struggled along over the years with several
different names and after some discussion it was concluded that the best
and most effective name for our group would be the Franklin County
Genealogy Society. The Society did not elect officers, prefering to remain
a group of friends working on genealogy. Our newsletter will continue to
be produced by Donna Wilkes, with some assistance from Beverly. Anyone who
would like to participate in that, please contact Donna Wilkes, 2935

Everyone discussed their current projects and problems and had a great
time. Future meetings will have a theme, such as courthouse research,
difficulty with names, etc. There is another meeting planned for August,
the date has not been set yet but we will send postcards to everyone about
the meeting.
