Dec 27, 1834

Sir

I have again examined the claims of Jesse Byrd and John White and have to state as follows:

Jesse Byrd sets forth one tour of two months in the beginning of 1782 and also one other tour in that year against the hostile Indians for the frontiers.  It has been ascertained that the last tour set forth at farthest three months.  He did not therefore serve in both tours for as long a period as six months, which is necessary in order to obtain a pension under the act of 7 June 1832.  The claim has therefore been rejected and the papers filed in this office.

In the case of John White…

Signed: Hon. James Standifer

Sir:

I have the honor to return herewith Mr. Childress letter and to inform you that the Claim of Jesse Byrd was rejected for the reason that it did not appear that he rendered as much as 4 months, since he alleged he served two tours on the Indian frontier, one of two months, and the other in 1782 for 6 months.  It has been ascertained that the tour in 1782 did not exceed two months, making his entire service 4 mo only…

Sir:

In answer to the Enclosed letter of Robert M. Allison Esq I have the honor to state that no pension was ever allowed Jesse Byrd, or to any one in right of his revolutionary services.

His claim for a pension was rejected for the reason that he did not serve six months.

If his children can establish six months service they would not be to anything in right of such services.
