[I] Sally Karns, one of the heirs at law of William Craig dec’d do upon oath testify and declare to the best of my knowledge and belief that William Craig did enlist in the year 1777 for the term of during the war and served in regiment number eight under the command of Col Mulenburg [sic: Peter Muhlenberg] of the Virginia continental line and that he continued in the service aforesaid until the end of the war.
I further declare that I have never received a warrant for the bounty land promised to William Craig on the part of the United States, nor do I believe that he ever received it or transferred his claim to it in any manner whatsoever; therefore
Know all men by these presents that I Sally Karns aforesaid do hereby constitute and appoint Anthony Evans Jr to be my true and lawful attorney, for me and in my name to demand and receive from the Secretary of War of the United States, a warrant for the quanty of land due to me as aforesaid, and my said attorney is hereby fully authorised and empowered to constitute and appoint one or more substitutes or attorneys under him for the special purposes above expressed

At a Court continued and held for the County of Bedford the 28th day of August 1828;
Satisfactory evidence was adduced in Court to prove that Sally Carnes is the daughter and one of the heirs at law in fid. of William Craig Dec’d late a Soldier in the Third Regiment of the Virginia line on Continental Establishment
