The National Archives
More than the Census
Have you ever wondered what other records, beside the
census, are available at the National Archives? Marie Varrelman
Melchiori will introduce you to not only the basic records, but
the obscure records as well. She has worked with
NARA records for over 31 years and views the records from a researcher's perspective.
Her four lectures will offer
invaluable insight and many suggestions that
will lead to more successful research.
Join us for another stimulating day of instruction, inspiration
and fellowship as GRIVA again convenes at the Library of Virginia.
In addition to the lectures, we offer the opportunity to make known research
interests during the conference through a surname exchange that is part of
Conference Registration.
(Members and friends unable to attend may submit their names and $2.00 to receive
a printout after the conference.)
We also will hold GRIVA's "White Elephant Sale".
Conference participants are invited to bring surplus books, maps, CDs,
periodicals and other genealogical resources for potential sale.
GRIVA will sponsor a table for the display. You set the
price (firm or negotiable) and reap the benefits. Each item should have an
envelope with an item description, seller's name
and asking price and details (checks OK or no checks, etc.) clearly written on
the front. Envelopes should be paper clipped
or taped to the item. At the end of the day, sellers can reclaim their envelops
and/or unsold items. Unsold items may be
donated to GRIVA who will dispose of them as we see fit...our library collection,
donation to another organization, maybe
even eBay! If you have questions, please contact Sharon Garber.
