This indenture entered into this second day April One thousand and Eighteen hundred and Nineteen between James Chalmers of Halifax County and State of Virginia of the one part and John W. Glenn of the County of Caswell and State of (unreadable: North Carolina) of the other part.  Witnesseth that the said James Chalmers for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar to him in hand paid the receipt of which he doth hereby acknowledge hath given, granted and conveyed and by these presents doth give, grant and confirm unto the said John W. Glenn one half acre of ground in the Town of Milton situated on the west side of High Street and no. 4 in the range of lots laid off from said Chalmers known by the Office Lot of 4 In (?) in front and 208 Ft. 8” back to have and to hold the aforesaid lot or half acre of ground with the appurtenances thereunto belonging to him. The said Glenn, his heirs and assignees forever and the said Chalmers doth covenant and agree for himself, his heirs, and with the said Glenn his heirs and assignees that he will forever warrant and defend the right and title to the premises aforesaid agt (against?) the claim or claims of all persons whatsoever unto the sole use of him, the said Glenn, his heirs and assignees forever.

 

In testimony whereof the said James Chalmers hath hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal the date above written.
