Benjamin E. Terry was born 1785 unknown birthplace Died 1851

 and is found on the 1850 Census at age 65 listed as Planter, with the following children:

 

William I age 30

Athia ? age 29 Male(Could be Athalia Pope?) wife

Agnes  age 25 Female

Frances age 21 Female

Alexander Pickney age 20 Male * Authors Direct Line

Eliza Jane age 16 Female

 

Benjamin served in War of 1812 and Bounty Papers for service

In Virginia Militia Under Capt. Sam Carter.

He was married to Apphia Caldwell?(Colwell?)( See Caldwell Data)

  in Caswell County, NC on 1818 and she is still alive in 1855 in Pittsylvania County, Va.

 

His neighbors in Halifax were James Redden and William Kirby.

 

William I  Terry is shown as being married to Thalia A. Pope

On the Halifax Marriage Records and in, 1883  purchased 159 acres

In Florida.

 

Frances Terry no information as yet.

Agnes is found on Florida Census in 1880 in home of her sister

 Eliza Jane Martin and Elijah Martin Orlando, Florida. Eliza Jane

Married Elijah Martin, in Rockingham, NC. On 1866. They are  all

Buried in Maitland, Florida cemetery.

 

Alexander Pinckney Terry served in NC in Civil War and married

Elizabeth M. Witty bn 1842( See Witty Data) in Guilford County NC on

August 1866. They moved to Orlando, Florida in 1889.

 

Alexander and Elizabeth had the following children:

   MaryLillian married Judson and had one daughter, Elizabeth   Phillipa Judson she is also buried I with her mother in Maitland

  Cemetary.

  Frederick Terry married Estelle and had no children of record.

Rosa Belle married Edwin E. Bouldin and had son, Donald she

died  when he was very young and he was raised by his Aunt Annie

Lee Terry Smith. Edwin Bouldin returned to Virginia and remarried.

 

Annie Lee Terry bn 1878  married   William Glynn Smith from Liverpool, England they lived in Jacksonville and Orlando, Florida

And are buried in Jacksonville.

 

William and Annie had 2 children

Gordon Lee Smith bn1913

Katherine Mae Smith married George N Nettles and Lester L. Gottberg

She has two Living children,

Kathleen And David.

Allen Caldwell jr. was born in 1822 in Halifax, Va. was grandson of John Caldwell born 1715 from Ireland. Research is ongoing. Input

              The Witty’s of Guilford Co N.C.

 

Captain John Witty of Ireland received 1400 acres by patent in 1661 he owned a

  ship called the Rich and transported to and from England.

 He is the grandfather of  John, in 1783 Guilford Co, NC with

DAR Land Grant of 640 Acres. Vol. 1V, page 6, S18662.

His children:

 Ezekiel, no info

 Elijah, has son Leaven C married to Elizabeth Martin he dies in 1844

Leaving her a widow with a daughter, Elizabeth Witty*See below and son William and Levi who are in household of Weatherly in 1850 census. She remarries to John Kirkman( possible Quaker Connection)

Elizabeth Witty marries in 1858 Franklin Alexander who is killed in civil war  she then marries Alexander Terry and thus the Terry Connection.

Col. Neil Kirkman was the first Commander of the Florida Highway

Patrol in 1939, believe he may be grandson of John Kirkman.
