This will somehow survived the fire that destroyed the King and Queen County Court House in 1865. It was found in the Circuit Clerk's Office in the old chancery cases files in box 12.
WILL of George Schools of King & Queen County Virginia:
Court Record: Written August 12, 1835 Offered for proof on: November 15, 1836
In the name of GOD, I George Schools of King & Queen County do now make my last will and testament.
1st I leave unto Polly Schools the wife of Elijah Schools seventy acors of land whear she now lives in Including the houses and Orchard as long as she lives and after her death to her three sons George, Major, & Elijah School to them and their heirs forever. but if they should all die without an heir lawfully begotten by their body the land is to be sold and divided equally
Among my children and grand children. if the above Polly Schools should marry The above three sons to take posession of said land for their benefit. I have sold to the above Polly Schools the balance of the tract of land called Kingsland Court for five dollars per acre and she has paid me one hundred and seventy dollars which has been applied to the payment of my ---------. Thos Schools accepts the balance of the money The above Polly Schools will owe at my death for the land purchased of me to be equally divided between Thos. Schools----------------------------(up >) Sally------------ ------------------------------------------
Fanny Gatewood- Tis my will that Polly Schools The wife of Elijah Schools and her three sons George, Major, Elijah Schools they are not to have no part of my negroes at my death their lot of land being better than the rest --------------------------------------.
2nd I lend to my daughter in law Nancy Schools the wife of Thos. Schools -- The land a negrow by the name of Bob and all the property made over to me for safe keeping that formerly was theirs to (?)inherit during her life and widowhood and after her death to be equally divided among ------- -------- ----- ------ (?) Solomon, Sally, Anne, Emily Schools and Fanney Gateweeod to ----- and their heirs forever. I also lend to my daughter in law Nancy Schools wife of Thos. Schools one negrow woman by the name of (?)Judy (?)Malone or Mahon during her life and after her death to be equally divided among her five children Sollomon, Sally, Anne, Emily Schools and Fanny Gatewood
3rd I lend to Jeremiah Schools fourty five acors of land according to the line I chopt marc or less where he now lives bounding on followeth beginning at a corner, near gum standing on the edge of big meadow farm then turning across the meadow at Sunset Corse and thence a north corse to Keays line and so round according to the chopt line Including his and now present wifes life and after their death to be equally divided amongst their children forever
4 I lend to my son John and Polly Schools his wife In during their life Seventy five acors of land according to the line I chopt more or less bounded as followeth beginning at the mouth of the branch that comes up to the path that goes to Lankford's and thence turns a north east corse and then a north corse to Kay's line and so an round according to the chopt line and after their death to be equally divided amongst their children
5 I give to my son Waller Schools and Betty his wife one hundred acors of land more or less to them and their heirs forever bounded as followeth beginning at the swamp next to Pollards thence turning north corse up the branch to the persimon tree ------ thence northwest corse to John's line and so on round according to the chopt line to the beginning.
6th I lend to Thos. Owens and Nancy Owens his wife and Henry Patterson and Polly Patterson his wife the tract of land all that is not named in my will to be equally divided between Nancy Owens and Polly Patterson according to quantity and quality Polly Patterson to have the house part where she now lives Nancy Owens having no house as her part is at liberty to sell it when it suits her. At the death of Polly Patterson her part of land to equally divided amongst her children.
7th I leave to my sons Jeremiah, John, and Waller Schools and Nancy Owens and Polly Patterson the balance of my negrows not named in my will to be equally divided amongst them at price value and after their death to be equally divided amongst their children none of those negrows to be sold. Thease five above named children Jeremiah, John, Waller Schools, Nancy Owens & Polly Patterson is to keep Edmon and pay one hundred dollars to my grand daughter Elizabeth S. Mahon when she marrys and their (?)part, but if the above Elizabeth S. Mahon dies without an heir lawfully begotten of her body money to be equally divided amongst my legetees.
8th The balance of my properties not named in my will to be sold and the money to be equally divided amongst my legetees Polly Schools three sons George, Major, Elijah Schools to have one seventh part of said money and Nancy Schools five children Solomon, Sally, Anny, Emily Schools and Fanny Gatewood the same. Jeremiah, John, and Waller Schools the same Nancy Owens and Polly Paterson the same seventh part.
9 Lastly I appoint Waller Schools my executor to this my last will and testament perhaps you may divide this estate without any qualification as an executor and I hope to owe nothing and you are all of age. Given under my hand and seale this twelth day of August one thousand eight hundred and thirty five.

At a quarterly court held for King and Queen county at the courthouse on Tuesday the 15th of November 1836. his last will and testament of George Schools decreed was offered for proof by Waller Scho ols the executor therein named and was proved by the oath of Samuel Gresham and Reuben M. Garnett two of the witness thereto subscribed and also by the oath of the said executor and is ordered to be recorded.
