This deed made the 28th day of May in the year one thousand
eight hundred and fifty three, Between Harrison Cross and Catharine
his wife and Robert Poland and Julia Ann F. his wife, all of the
County of Loudoun and State of Virginia. Witnesseth that for and
in consideration of the natural love and affection which the said
Harrison Cross and Catharine his wife bear to the said Julia Ann
Francis, wife of said Robert Poland- as well as one dollar to
them paid in Hand: And also in further consideration of the sum
of Six hundred and Sixty- three dollars nad seventy two and half
cents paid to the Said Harrison Cross by John Poland of the County
of Prince William and State of Virginia who was a joint purchaser
with the Said Harrison Cross of a certain tract or parcel of Land
lying and being in the said County of Loudoun, known as Goshen,
with the understanding , that the said purchased land was to be
conveyed by deed to the aforesaid Robert Poland and Julia Ann
F. his wife, the said tract or Parcels of Land situated in the
County of Loudoun and state of Virginia in two detached parcels
and known as Goshen and bounded as follows(as per deed from William
F. Adams Commissioner of the Circuit Court of Loudoun County to
the said Harrison Cross. Beginning at a pile of Stones and stake
in the Line of Rubin Hutchison and corner to Adrian Swart, thence
with the said Hutchison S 861/4 W 197 poles to a stone in the
old road and corner to Hutchison and Luckett and the road S 50
E 135 6/10 poles to a stone marked E H; thence with the roads
61 ¼ e 64 poles to a stake and pile of stones corner to
Adrian Swart, thence with the said Swart n 15 1/2E 1325poles to
the beginning containing 83 acresa1 rod and 10 poles of cleared
land. The wood land bounded as follows (beginning at a double
hickory corner to Samuel Swart thence with the said Swart N561/2
w 80 1.2 poles to a pile of stones corner to Adrian Swart: thence
with the same s 26 ½ W 58 poles to a pile of stones in
Hutchison's line and in the old road: thence with the same S 56
½ E 80 ½ pole to a pile of Stones corner to Samuel
Swart: thence with the same N26 1/E 58 poles to the beginning
containing 29 acres and 29 poles making in the whole 112 acres
1 Rod and 39 poles-And the said Harrison Cross and Catharine his
wife do covenant, grant, and convey to Robert Poland and Julia
Ann F/Poland his wife such title in and to the aforesaid tract
or parcels of land known as Goshen as was conveyed by deed bearing
the date the 24th day of May 1853 to the said Harrison Cross by
William F.Adam Commissioner of the Circuit court of Loudoun County.
Witness the following signatures and seals the day and year first
written above.
County of Loudoun to wit
I, Beverly Hutchison a justice of the peace for the County
aforesaid and in the state of Virginia do certify that Harrison
Cross whose name is signed to the writing above bearing date on
the 29 day of May 1853 had acknowledged the same before me in
my county aforesaid, Given under my hand this 28 day of May 1853.
State of Virginia, County of Loudoun to wit
We Beverly Hutchison and Thomas L. Ellzey Justices of the peace
for the County of Loudoun, in the State of Virginia do certify
that Catharine Cross the wife of Harrison Cross whose names are
assigned to the writing hereto annexed bearing the date on the
28th day of May 1853 personally appeared before us in the County
Aforesaid and being examined by us privily and apart from her
husband and having the writing fully explained to her, she the
said Catharine Cross, Acknowledged the said writing to be her
act and declared that she had willingly executed the same and
does not wish to retract it. Given under our hands this 28th day
of May 1853.
