Will of Francis Hague
written 24 August 1780
inventory dated 12 November 1781
found in Loudoun Co., VA

Transcribed and submitted by Bronwen Souders,

Frances Hague was one of the co-founders of Waterford (the other being his brother- in-law Amos Janney) and what I found interesting was that though Waterford (then called Janney's Mill) began in the 1730s, it wasn't until the death of Francis in 1780 that the land started being divided and the town could grow--the two men pretty much owned all the village land up until that time. I have his inventory if you wish but I didn't think the text, as typed in table form, would translate to email very well. - Bronwen Souders

Be it Remembered this twenty-fourth day of the eighth month called August in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty, I, Francis Hague of Loudoun County in Virginia being weak of body but of sound disposing, mind and memory and calling to mind the uncertainty of this transitory Life, do make this my last Will and Testament, touching the disposal of what temporal Estate I have; hereby revoking and disannulling all former Wills by me made and this only to be taken for my last Will and Testament and none other Imprimis. I also Will that all my personal Estate (save only such Articles as are otherwise bequeathed) be also sold in like manner, and that the whole amounts of the sales both real and personal be judiciously disposed of as is herein directed
