Hargrove: I live in Shawsville. If I can do a quick look up
for someone in the library or go to a gravesite and write down
an inscription, etc., I would be happy to do that. Many times
I wish someone in the county I am researching would be willing
to do this. I have a three year old, so cannot do research that
would take several hours, but I am willing to help where I can.

SUMNER BOOK FOR SALE
Dear Family, "Cousins," and Friends,
I'm so pleased to be able to tell you that the book, The Descendants
of Hezekiah Sumner of Montgomery and Floyd Counties, Virginia,
is at last finished and ready for publication. As many of
you already know, the book was begun by Peggy (Burton) Rich, and
is a compilation of over 25 years of her research and information
contributed by family members. In 1998, she asked me to
be her editor and I accepted with great enthusiasm for the project.
After Peggy's death on May 13, 1999, I was asked to complete the
book and see it through publication and distribution. With the
assistance of Betty Barrett, the editor, we have doubled the number
of individuals named in the book, now over 5,400 people, including
births, deaths and marriages up to March 2001 (if current information
has been made available). It is documented, with 74 photographs,
most of them family pictures, plus maps, wills, family stories,
and articles about Floyd County and its residents. The book
is hardbound in navy blue, with gold lettering stamped on the
cover and spine. There are 434 pages including a complete
index of the individuals appearing in the book.
After April 30, 2001, the price of the book will be $47 plus
shipping. Because of the expense of privately publishing family
histories, quantities are limited. In addition, small numbers
of reprints are prohibitively expensive. Irene S. Underwood,
1624 Tradd Court, Chesterfield, MO 63017, and enclose a
check or money order in the above amount for each copy requested.
Please do not send cash. Be sure to include your postal
address, a phone number, and/or an email address (if you have
one).
The Sumner book was created through the efforts and contributions
of many people. It has been an adventure to be part of researching
and completing it and getting it ready for publication.
Peggy Rich, Betty Barrett, and I offer it to the family and other
interested researchers in the hope that you will enjoy it and
find it useful.

"Pathfinders, Pioneers, and Patriots", an extensive
Historical CD that shadows the early explorers to "the New
World" then
follows the progression of the frontier across Virginia
to 1800. From 1760 to 1800, it focuses on the largely untold
history of S.W. Virginia, E. Kentucky, and N. E. Tennessee.
