Nelson County Historic Sites
This page is a recent addition to the Nelson County site. It was created because of
some research Karen Ledford is doing. Karen submitted the first item posted here and I thank
her for giving me the idea for this page. Anyone having or seeking information about an historic
site in Nelson County is encouraged to submit it to me at wcoffey@mindspring.com for
posting here. Your submission could be in the form of a question about a particular site such
as Karen's or it could be information that other researchers may find interesting. I look forward
to your submissions and hope that this page will prove to be a benefit to all of you.

BELMONT PLANTATION/HOSPITAL -
I am interested in the historical site of what was Belmont Plantation during the War Between The
States. During that time period it was turned into Belmont Hospital for the Soldiers. My G.G.
Grandfather, William Jefferson Brown of Co. F, 38th Ga. Regt., Army of N. Va., out of Hart Co., Ga.
died there of Typhoid Fever and was buried in their little cemetery. We have placed monument on a
grave there for him. Have there been any additional identifications of Soldiers who are buried in this
little cemetery. My name is Karen T. Ledford and I live in Toccoa, Ga. I appreciate anyone who can
tell me about any other soldiers who are buried there. Thank you.
