MAYS -

Seeking information on the family of Armstead Mays, born about 1800, in Nelson County. He married Sarah Harris on March 31, 1825 in Nelson County, with a Joshua Harris as bondsman. They had 8 children, Benjamin, Nelson, William, Cynthia, Joseph, John, Jane, and Nicholas. Cynthia and Joseph died in 1855, and William and John were killed in the Civil War. Census records for 1840, 1850, 1860, and 1870 indicate that this Mays family was living in the Lovingston area of Nelson County. After Sarah's death in 1880, Armstead went to live with his daughter and her husband, Lucinda and Jacob Meeks. I have been looking for the parents and siblings of Armstead Mays and Sarah Harris for quite some time and have not been able to connect them with any of the area Mays families. I'm beginning to wonder if Armstead may have been a middle name. Can anyone help? Thanks.

STEWART -

Looking on information on the Stewart family of Nelson County, specifically regarding a Baethemeu or something similiar to that spelling. She married a Mr. Miller and had a son, John Stewart Miller. John Stewart Miller was born around 1860-70 and lived in Lynchburg, VA, so I would imagine Baethemue to be born around 1830-40. Her family owned Stewart's Mill on Dutch Creek, which is no longer there. My grandfather remembers the mill so it would have to have been torn down in the 1900's.
