The New River Historical Society was incorporated October 18,
1966. The purpose for which the Corporation was organized is as
follows.
A) To bring together person and organizations interested in history
as history relates to the City of Radford and the New River Valley
region of Virginia.
B) To discover and collect any and all material relating to the
history of said New River Valley of Virginia area and any area
related thereto
C) To provide for the housing, storing, preservation, display
and accessibility of said material to students and the general
public.
D) To disseminate historical information by publication or other
means of communication directly by the corporation or in association
with others, including the marking of historical objects, buildings,
sites and trails.
The New River Historical Society owns and operates the Wilderness Road Regional Museum in Newbern, Pulaski County, Virginia. The Museum employs 5 part time employees. The Museum also houses the earliest known records of Pulaski County, Virginia as well as artifacts and genealogical material related to the area.
