In the Matter of Frank Harmon, on a Petition to enslave himself.

Frank Harmon, a free negro, residing in the county of Pulaski, having at
the last term of this court, filed a petition to be permitted to enslave
himself and elected Anthony Owens of said County for his master, and it
appearing to the satisfaction of the Court that the notice of this
application has been posted at the front door of the Court House of said
County for one month, and the said Frank Harmon and Anthony Owens have been
summoned to appear here a this time, and they having both appeared, and
being examined separately by the Court (in the person of) (the attorney for
the Commonwealth being present at such examination) and the Court being
satisfied there is no fraud or collusion between the parties, and the Court
having accertained the value (by the report of James R. Kent, Jabin B.
Alexander, and A.M. Mathews, gentlemen, who were called to value said negro
as if he were a slave, Eleven hundred dollars, and the said Anthony Owens
having thereupon paid into Court five hundred and
fifty dollar, or half of the amount at which said negro was valued, and also
executed and acknowledged a bond with John S. Draper as his security in
this………….
