HOLSTON SALT & PLASTER CO.,
SALT MANUFACTURERS,
Saltville, Va., July 7th 1874

Messieurs: Walker & Baskerville
Newbern, Va.

Dear sirs

I spoke to your senior in regard to a claim against your county. When I did so I was under the impresion that it was much larger than it turns out to be. I now enclose it.

You will see from the contract that the salt was put at $1 per bushel which was below its gold value. There being delivered 200 sacks or 600 bushels, the salt would come to                         $600.00
200 sacks to contain it @ 25 cents             50.00
                                ________
This I regard the gold value of our claim
with interest from 1 August 1863.                 $650.00

But I will accept greenbacks payable out of the next county levy, and let interest run from 1st January 1866.

Please present the claim to your board of supervisors. If rejected, appeal, give bond & c. I enclose power of attorney.

Very respectfully

W. A. Stuart
