COX, MADISON, MOORE posted by Charles S. Miller on Sunday, March 2, 1997

Lunenberg County records indicate that a Roger, Henry, and Ambrose MADISON were living in that county in late 1750s and early 1760s. What is the connection of the three? Roger Madison pays taxes on 550 acres and has 6 tithes in 1764. His daughter Anne marries Henry COX in Charlotte County, 1773. Another daughter married Rice MOORE in Halifax County in 1786. In 1780s, Henry MADISON has three daughters married in Charlotte County. Henry and Anne Madison COX later move to Blount County, Tennessee, where they are large landholders. Among their sons: Madison, Henry, Taliaferro, and Ambrose. What is the connection of these Madisons to the prominent Madison family of Orange County. Will appreciate any "leads" or other assistance.

SLAUGHTER, SMITH posted by A.L. Kennedy on Thursday, March 6, 1997

SMITH, Augustine - would like to know the spouse and parentage of the Augustine Smith, who died in Orange Co. in 1736 (two years after its formation from Spotsylvania), and was the father of the Mary Smith who m. Robert SLAUGHTER. Every Smith researcher I have spoken with gives a different wife and different ancestry for this Augustine - I think because there was more than one (possibly more than two) who were contemporaries in Orange, Essex, and Fauquier Counties. Any excerpt of records giving a spouse's name (I think it was Mary), or indication of his parents, would be appreciated. The other researchers are relying on published biographies or genealogies, so I'm trying to find primary or secondary source material. Many thanks.
