HODGES posted by Albert Metts on Sunday, March 15, 1998

On 23 June 1743, John Hodges was ordered to work on a road from Massanutten to Thorntons Mill in Orange County.  John Hodges was a young man, who had married Elizabeth in Richmond County before moving to Orange County, the part that became Culpeper County in 1748. They had several children before they left for Essex Co. in 1764, where my ancestor, John, Jr., was born.  Next, in 1767, the family moved to Abbeville, SC.  John, Sr., a militia soldier, was at home when Indians attacked, shot John and burned three of his daughters in the cabin. Sad!  John, Jr. went to war at age 15! I will appreciate greatly any information about the years before 1764 about this pioneer family!
