JACKSON posted by Rev. Earl W. Jackson Sr. on Sunday, April 19, 1998

I am the great grandson of a former orange county sharecropper and his wife (Gabriel & Eliza). I looked them up in the 1880 census. They had three sons- Willie or William, Toler and Frank. There was also a daughter whose name I do not recall. I would like to find out if Gabriel and Eliza were former slaves. If so, what plantation and master owned them? I understand that there was one large plantation in Orange county. Are there records of slaves owned there? Finally, I understand that there in a Jackson Street in Orange County where every black family on the street is named Jackson. Why did so many former Virginia slaves take the name Jackson? Because of Stonewall, a slavemaster? Why? Were my greatgrands owned by someone named Jackson?    Thank You,

LUCEY posted by Paul Lucey on Friday, April 24, 1998

My Grandfather David D. Lucey, parents D. W. and M.C. Lucey came to Orange County sometime between 1860-65 from Ireland. It is my understanding that they received a "Land Grant" from the government. My Grandfather migrated to Norfolk, Va. and married in 1889. Would it be possible that a record of the land grant info be in the Orange County Court house linking D. W. Lucey? Any inof will be greatly appreciated.
